Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Interestingly, the Braves can't play the Brewers in the first round. They either get the #5 seed or the boot.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 The Braves may hold Sale for Game 2 and if they win the first game they'll certainly have someone else start the second game. And I assume the same would be true of Schwellenbach if Sale starts the first game.

Let's just call it a split tomorrow and everyone takes the day off. There's a clear motivation for the Mets and Braves to do just that. They each forfeit one and leave the Diamondbacks screaming about the spirit of the thing.Of course, there would then be an "OK, you forfeit first" dilemma.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Megill announced as Game 1 starter.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 And I guess Severino in the second game if they lose. Interestingly they'll have an extra man for the doubleheader. Bring up a starter from Syracuse to hold in reserve, and let them start game 2 if the game is meaningless. That's what I'd do, but I also wouldn't have pitched Diaz today with a five-run lead.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 No extra man for a doubleheader in September, as I understand it, as both teams are already at an expanded 28.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 They don't get the extra player for the doubleheader since rosters expanded to 28 already. If the Mets win game 1 with Megill (and one would assume a heavy dose of Butto if needed), great. For game 2, they can DFA Eddie Alvarez (not postseason eligible), and then call up Lucchesi or someone else to pitch. There's an extra 40-man spot available to be created by moving Scott to the 60-day DL. If the Mets lose game 1, they have Severino going against not-Sale.
