Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 If the Mets sweep the lowly White Sox (and I've learned to be fearful of teams called "lowly") and the Braves lose the next three to the first-place Phillies, neither of which are implausible scenarios, the Mets will wake up on September 2 tied for the third Wild Card berth.Even if it doesn't turn out exactly that way, the Mets do have an opportunity here to make up some much-needed ground.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Yeah, bad teams win a lot. Even the 2024 White Sox have managed to win 31 times. And each win was against a team currently ahead of them in the standings. Fifty-eight percent of their wins have come at home. They've even shut out their opponents five times.One game at a time.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Tylor seems to wilt in big games. I don't have data on that, just an impression.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Tonight the Sox have the pitching advantage. Statistically anyway. I don't really know much about Cannon except he has a great name.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Sweeps are difficult, let's see
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 I am kahnfident the Mets can win three against the Pale Hose one game at a time Beyond that I don't often get to watch the White Sox play very often and am looking forward to this series Tylor, "be the ball"
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 The ChiSox have won a hair over 26% of their home games this year. So using that as a guide, the Mets have a 74% of winning each game. But to get to a sweep you have to go W - W - W where there's a slightly better than 1/4 chance of losing each ... or .74 x .74 x .74 = .405124So a 40% chance of a sweepage given those generic parameters.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 And here's who will be trying to sweep the first game.Nimmo and Vientos swapped in the lineup, making Vientos the newest resident of the three-hole.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/buddy-grote-patch.png[/FIMG][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/chicago-white-sox-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

[TH]=#FF5910]1[/TH]=#002D72]Francisco Lindor (S)=#FF5910]ss[TH]=#C4CED4]1[/TH]=#27251F]Nicky Lopez (L)=#002663]2b

[TH]=#FF5910]2[/TH]=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo (L)=#FF5910]lf[TH]=#C4CED4]2[/TH]=#27251F]Luis Robert, Jr. (R)=#002663]cf

[TH]=#FF5910]3[/TH]=#002D72]Mark Vientos (R)=#FF5910]3b[TH]=#C4CED4]3[/TH]=#27251F]Andrew Benintendi (L)=#002663]lf

[TH]=#FF5910]4[/TH]=#002D72]Pete Alonso (R)=#FF5910]1b[TH]=#C4CED4]4[/TH]=#27251F]Andrew Vaughn (R)=#002663]dh

[TH]=#FF5910]5[/TH]=#002D72]Jesse Winker (L)=#FF5910]rf[TH]=#C4CED4]5[/TH]=#27251F]Gavin Sheets (L)=#002663]1b

[TH]=#FF5910]6[/TH]=#002D72]J.D. batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was the White Sox doing the sweeping of this series. And if the Mets were out of it, playoff-wise, I'd probably be rooting for a White Sox sweep. I'm one of those Mets fans that wants the Mets to hold their 120 loss record.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 It wouldn't be Metsian at all. Losing to bad teams is just something that happens sometimes.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Two out of three lost to the Angels and A's this month. Not a trend to be continued.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Love when there's a dozen posts in an IGT an hour before game time.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 The Mets are calling up Abe Froman tomorrow
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Phillies are not exactly helping us out tonight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 First thing is helping ourselves, and we've fallen behind and gotten Winkie shaken up.Highest OPS in the Sox' lineup is .679. Lowest OPS in the Mets lineup is .699, so our spreads barely touch.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 That's some stupid fencing wall out there.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 How many times does that have to happen until he closes his stance. Maddening.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Alvarez is killing this team.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 This is the second time the Mets made two appeals on one play, and the outcome was split.Kind of a loophole in the rules.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I feel like every player in this Sox lineup is related to some other MLB guy.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 He can't throw any secondary stuff for strikes. And it's not deceptive enough to have anyone chase it.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Megill needs to be left unprotected in an expansion draft.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Hey Tylor, how 'bout next inning let's try Not putting the leadoff man on.
