Alvarez: Fuck you Ron & Keith

Please catch up those of us following on the radio broadcast.

Gary asked if they'd give Alvarez the green light on 3-0. Both answered 'No' immediately and emphatically.

And I kind of agreed.

Inevitably, some writer is going to say he broke the rules of baseball etiquette by swinging on 3-0. Dominguez lollipopped it in there to try and get a strike and Alvarez took advantage, which, inevitably, someone will wave their finger at.

I doubt it.

Swinging while you're ahead by multiple runs late in a game on 3-0 is more in the breaching etiquette vein.

But most of that stuff has gone the way of the dodo bird in recent years and in tie games in the 9th inning there's no such thing.

I don't think there is any rule of baseball anywhere, written or unwritten, that says you can't swing 3-0 in a tie game in the ninth.

Peterson is also making a believer out of me. Even when he was solid in 2022, he was wishy-washy. But he has been excellent this year. Maybe he really is turning the corner and living up to his first round pedigree. He could be a meaningful piece in the rotation next year.

As Gary mentioned several times last night re: Peterson, the WHIP (1.36) and the ERA (3.00) don't exactly match up so you wonder if he's being a wee bit fortunate. But the longer it continues the more you start to think that maybe he has a knack for it.

Yes, you can paste images here. What are you trying to paste?

And what does "either" refer to? Is there anything else we can help you with?

There is no etiquette against 3-0 swings - if he broke etiquette, it was by admiring his shot for so long before starting his trip around the bases. They used to bean guys for that. I don't think too many players care anymore

It's hard to second-guess a player in that situation. Nobody's in a better position to decide whether to swing or not than the player himself. Especially when that decision is made in the micro-second that the pitch is already en route. And perhaps, Alvarez was leaning towards taking the 3-0 pitch before it was ever thrown anyways, but when the pitch came in, suddenly decided that it was a meatball that he could crush.

And of course, Mendoza agreed. Otherwise, he would've sent Alvarez the "take" sign.

(Unless he did, and Alvarez ignored it).

According to today's Athletic piece on the Mets, Alvarez was given the green light on that fateful 3-0 pitch.

Also, Alvarez's health is apparently not the issue causing his current slump. According to hitting coach Eric Chavez, Alvarez had developed the bad habit of trying to pull most everything for Home Runs.

Garrett was very much the same way, then he fell apart.

Peterson might a house of cards, too.

I don't know, I have more faith in him now than I had in Garrett then, when he was doing well.
