Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 This opening, with the players arriving out of box is kinda strange. Are they all crowded in there?
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Pete! I love that "Working Man" is his walk up song.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Well, not the strongest version of the anthem.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Gunnar Henderson has a Scooby-doo bat. The hosts doing their Scooby-doo impressions is a low point for ESPN. Yikes. This can get better.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I don't know. ESPN has had a lot of low points over the years.Like, scraping bottom.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Alec Bohm started slow. Got better as he went. Gets 20, then bonus pitches. Finishes with 21.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Edgy MD wrote:I don't know. ESPN has had a lot of low points over the years.Like, scraping bottom.Good call.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Bobby Witt Jr. also starts slow, hits a groove and finishes one behind Bohm.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Adolis Garcia looked gassed, got jammed by his pitcher, finishes with 18.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Teoscar Hernandez hits 19 -- and Pete is coming soon!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Pete looks tight , struggled, I'm done
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Pete flames out! Never got on a good run!
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Jose Ramirez ties for the lead with 21.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Ramirez looking pretty tired here.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 And he sends Bobby Witt Jr. to the finals!
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 A "swing off" between Bohm and Teoscar to see who goes to the finals.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 And it's Teoscar and Bobby Witt, who seems to have full mullet.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Oh my. The "Let's get ready to rumble" guy. Didn't realize he was still around.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Bobby Witt falls shy by one - Teoscar Hernandez wins the derby. Pretty disappointing once Pete flamed out.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 It was all downhill after that National Anthem, anyway here is Meatloaf at the 94 ASG ,is that Saberhagen
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 It'd be tough to think of something lower on the list of things I give a shit about than the home run derby.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I think a broad range of skills competitions would be great, and I imagine they know it would be great, but can't bear the risk of guys hurting themselves in the Dash Around the Bases or the Outfield Arm Competition.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 The competitions would have to be accuracy based (land your bunt on this spot, throw at a small target from distance) rather than who can throw/run faster.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I'd rather watch your other suggestion: Maybe if the losing team wives/GF's then had to walk around the outfield topless.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 The Home Derb is a silly frivolity whose primary audience is nine year olds.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 It'd be tough to think of something lower on the list of things I give a shit about than the home run derby.Watched Pete. Then turned it off. Agree it's kinda boring.I think there's ways you can make it fun though. For HR derby, you can switch it up year to year between an individual competition and AL vs. NL. Five guys, 20 swings each or something like that. You can have a skills competition. Bunting. Fielding. You can set up a course where you field a ball then fire it at target. Make it fun.I don't know that it would be enough to get Fman to watch. Maybe if the losing team wives/GF's then had to walk around the outfield topless.Ceetar, ABNS & I talked about this a bit last night in our most recent https://barleyprose.com"Mets On Tap" podcast episode. I also advocated for the skills competition. I'd watch even a titty-less version of that I think.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I did watch amy of the ASG last night, did Pete get in the game ? Did he do anything?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Got in the game and made a modestly deft put out at first.Struck out in the ninth against a powered-up Emmanuel Clase.
