This season is so depressing it's not even fun to do a word of the day anymore.

Today's word to describe the Mets will, until further notice, be used to describe the entire season.

It is, "bad." I repeat, "bad."

And if I don't see ya, in a long, long while

I'll try to find you left of the dial

Enjoyed a great holiday weekend of not watching the Mets. Debating whether or not to turn the game on now.

Seven Ks (already a career high for the LAD pitcher) and two bloop singles thru 5 innings.

Overall six hits in 15 innings, five of them singles.

Why play something interesting over the PA between innings when you can limit the choices to amongst the

most overplayed songs of the 20th and 21st Centuries such as PIANO MAN or DANCING QUEEN.

So with one inning to go, NYM pitchers held Dodger bats to 5 runs over 17 regulation innings ... and we're going to lose a DH anyway.

When do the Mets hit rock bottom? Are we there yet or are there still even worse ways to lose coming? Asking for a friend/all of us.

The way this team is hitting, that infielder would have to be Ernie Banks in his prime to make any difference.

What kind of infielder do you suggest they need to get this team going?

I advocated for a reserve infielder. I don't know if it would "get this team going" and I didn't suggest such a thing. I believe it would be a simple way to improve the team. Their middle infielders are playing poorly, sometimes playing hurt, seemingly fighting themselves, and can use a break.

But if you'd prefer a shrine to a fake voodoo figure over a Hall-of-Fame shortstop in his prime, I'd certainly take the latter.

I didn't say I preferred one over the other.

We have both recognized the need for a reserve infielder such as Iglesias to balance the roster (and give some others a rest). But I feel the hitting needs a boost that a reserve infielder could not provide. They need more.

The Jobu figure was in jest. But when you said they need another infielder, I felt it would have to be a strong bat and Banks was the first analogy I thought of. And I named a name.

At this point, I'd take anyone who can jump start the offense.

Who would you suggest?
