Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 This topic deserves a split.Good to see Wright live to fight another year. Too many good careers (better than his, frankly) have failed to reach that threshold.Reyes, on the other hand, got Hubie'd — one of only two Hubies on the ballot.Adrian Beltré: 366 votes, 95.1%Todd Helton: 307 votes, 79.7%Joe Mauer: 293 votes, 76.1%--------------------------------Billy Wagner: 284 votes, 73.8% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Gary Sheffield: 246 votes, 63.9% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Andruw Jones: 237 votes, 61.6%Carlos Beltrán: 220 votes, 57.1% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Alex Rodriguez: 134 votes, 34.8%Manny Ramirez: 125 votes, 32.5%Chase Utley: 111 votes, 28.8%Omar Vizquel: 68 votes, 17.7%Bobby Abreu: 57 votes, 14.8% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Jimmy Rollins: 57 votes, 14.8%Andy Pettitte: 52 votes, 13.5%Mark Buehrle: 32 votes, 8.3%Francisco Rodriguez: 30 votes, 7.8% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Torii Hunter: 28 votes, 7.3%David Wright: 24 votes, 6.2% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]*****************************José Bautista: 6 votes, 1.6% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Victor Martinez: 6 votes, 1.6%Bartolo Colon: 5 votes, 1.3% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Matt Holliday: 4 votes, 1%Adrián González: 3 votes, 0.8% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]Brandon Phillips: 1 vote, 0.3%Jose Reyes: 0 votes, 0% [FIMG=15]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG]James Shields: 0 votes, 0%Seems like a mostly solid outcome. I'm not buying that Andruw Jones was better than Carlos Beltrán, but I'll attribute the vote discrepancy to the trashcan-banging thingie.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 My predictions were all wrong:I had Beltran instead of Beltre, Hank Bauer instead of Joe Mauer, and Bill Melton rather than Todd Helton. That was just poor preperation on my part.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Am I reading this correctly:Both David Wright (24) and Chase Utley (111) were in their first years of eligibility and that scumbag got 5X as many votes as the Captain?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Sitting good unless he pulls a Schilling and burns it all down by ripping the BBWAA.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Jose Reyes got exactly the number of votes he deserved.Glad that Wright gets to stick around another year. I don't think he is a hall of famer but I like talking about him!Beltran was a better player than Andruw Jones, but the trash cans are always going to be a factor. You know else were better players (who played center field) Jim Edmonds and Kenny Lofton. Neither got in.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Reyes wasn't getting into the HOF because he wasn't good enough at baseball, charges or not. I'd guess the charges would have been part of the discussion if Reyes had an HOF-worthy career.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 If they are insufficiently concerned about domestic violence, that's hard to portray sing the Reyes case as a model, seeing whereas he received zero votes.Omar Vizquel may be a better case study. Francisco Rodriguez too.Vizquel is in precipitous decline. In 2020, he received 52.6% of the vote and had every reason to be hopeful the Hall was in his future. Since then he has dropped three straight years, to 49.1%, 23.9%, 19.5%, and now 17.7%. The accusations against him from both his former wife and his former batboy were certainly ugly, but both matters were settled out of court. I think that leaves voters in a gray area in which to exercise their own judgment, but clearly most have judged the accusations to me substantiated enough.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I'm not sure the clarity is as clear as all that. That was a heck of a career and tends to look better every year as UCLs explode across the horizon. He doesn't get my vote, likely, and he was suspended for some sketchy therapeutic treatments. But 10-15-20 years down the road, when the veteran's ballot is filled with a bunch of Harveys and Willises and Linceca who were great for a bit and then fell into the sea, guys with longevity and aplomb might seem more remarkable.
