I'm going to take a shot at #4 - Jay Payton. He seemed to have all the tools, but never quite put it together and became a star. He did have a pretty nice career, none the less.

I had a feeling that Payton had too good a run as a Met and in his MLB career to meet the "didn't pan out". I unfortunately, have a very difficult time recalling previous Mets, if they weren't around for quite a while and made a significant contribution.



I knew their was another young outfielder with high hopes that never panned out, but all I could come up with was Ryan Thompson, which I was sure was even less likely to be correct than Jay Payton. Alex Escobar was the guy I was thinking of, but couldn't come up with his name. I could almost picture him in my mind and kept thinking that he was traded to Cleveland, but that was all I could remember. I am pretty bad with names in general, so not a shock, I can't come up with them too readily even when I have a pretty good idea of whom I am trying to recall.
