Can't blame Uncle Steve for lack of effort. This ain't the Wilpons. Still, it hurts.

That deferral of Ohtani money made this possible. And boy, 12 years for a pitcher is really rolling the dice, no matter how good he is. Let's hope he morphs into late-era Hideki Irabu.

Right?

No fucking way the guy on the right throws harder.

Anyway. I guess it's not terrible to miss out on 12 years to a little guy that throws hard. History tells us they don't hold up. But will probably be awesome for 4-5 years if he's everything he's cracked up to be.

Total Lincecum vibes (which I only say now cause we lost out on him)

A fan on another site wrote this today:

Only nitpick is that he shows his pitches to the CF camera out of the windup. You can call every splitter. Trash cans will be banging if they don't fix that.

Five runs allowed in one inning in his debut.

It's easy to credit it in part ot facing a stacked Padre lineup in Korea, but hey, I'm glad that wasn't for us.

As I mentioned in another thread, if he had had a Mets debut like that, there would be angst all over the place.

It has me recalling Tom Glavine's first start in 2003. I don't recall how we reacted, but it probably wasn't especially measured.

It was more measured than for Glavine's last start as a Met.

He has a chance for a fresh start, and if he rebounds, what happened in Korea might stay in Korea. But I confess I'm rooting against the Dodgers.

Why would we have ever wanted Tom Glavine? I refuse to believe that happened.

This morning I realized that I had forgotten all about this guy that I spent last offseason coveting.

I looked him up, and he hasn't pitched since June 15. He's been out with a strained rotator cuff. At the time of his injury, he was 6-2, 2.92 in 14 starts. 74 innings. 17 walks and 84 strikeouts.
