Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Wheeler's dealin' and the Phightins are sluggin'A leadoff single and nothing else for ARZ thru 4But for Philly, HRs by Schwarber (1st pitch), Harper (1st pitch he saw), and Castellanos (the 5th in his last 9 ABs over 3 games)4 - 0
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 The Phillies seem to be able to win while hitting nothing but solo HRs. Guess that's the difference between having good pitching vs our sub par pitching.Actually it's amazing to think that the Phils only out-HR'd us by five this season. Of course tha didn't stop them from out-scoring the Mets by 79 runs ... but that's a whole 'nother issue.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 [zevon]Mediocre fastballs getting mutilated late at night /Kyle Schwarber again [/zevon]
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 If this were a prize fight they'd have stopped it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Ugh, hate these damn Phillies.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 Some red hot Paul Seawald 9th inning action for the DBacks facing 1-2-3 in a tie game (Schwarber, Turner, Harper)Schwarber = FOTurner = 5-3Harper = ?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 A four pitch pitch-around to Harper leads to Alex Bohm who, after a Harper SB, fouls off multiple foul balls before the third borderline pitch of the AB finally goes Seawald's way ... and we're going to bottom 9th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 DBacks score off Kimbrel on a bases loaded single by Ketel Marte.First Arizona post-season walk-off win since ... yup, THAT one.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Football players who've never been to a baseball game get great seats to the playoffs and have the good sense to appreciate what they're experiencing.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 Tonight is a 'bullpen game' for both sides. So it's top 5 in a 2-1 game and it seems like there's been about a dozen pitchers* so far.oe: tied at 2* only eightAnd the bottom of the 5th brings pitcher #9
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2023 Author Posted October 21, 2023 Had to cash it in after six last night and so just finished up catching up on the final three. But even broken up like that this was one helluva fun game.Particularly nice to see Kimbrel, and especially Alvarado, as the ones giving up the tying and winning runs in the 8th, to a couple of rookies no less. Both games yesterday saw wins by teams down by two in the 8th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2023 Author Posted October 21, 2023 And the Phils will have two games to try and win one back in eastern PA starting Monday. Wheeler was, once again, stellar tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2023 Author Posted October 23, 2023 Torey Lovullo tempts fate by pulling very effective starter Merrill Kelly [1 R, 3 H, last 8 retired] after just five innings/90 pitches and a 4-1 lead.He hasn't been burned by it yet (1 out/1on in the 7th) and the lead is up to 5-1 now, but the booth (and I) were all over the move and they've still got to get 8 more outs.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2023 Author Posted October 23, 2023 Leaving before the 9th inning even starts Philly phans!Really ... In a potential WS clinching game?!?Got an 8:30 bedtime maybe?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2023 Author Posted October 23, 2023 And we're getting a Game Seven tomorrow night!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Let's go DBacks , great story , hoping they can win it all ( although I'd be cool with the Rangers winning)
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Yeah, I'm meeting with a Phillie fan friend on Thursday, and it'd be really nice if the D'backs did them in tonight.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Rooting hard for Arizona here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 Second game in a row where Alvarado has gotten dinged around (Good!).Philly now going to Wheeler but, down two in the 7th, is it too late?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Do you remember Paul Sewald as a Met? I'm very glad for his successes but do you really think he's the shutdown closer you want in Game 7 with a two run lead?I think the Diamondbacks are in a great spot but I am nervous for them.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 I'm very nervous but Sewald is ok by me.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 More nervous that ARZ is relying on a lot of relievers with thin resumes. Saalfrank is Exhibit A
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 Not only a Yuge out there (Duh!) but if the Snakes play their cards right they don't have to face Harper again. With six outs to go not even Schwarber or Turner are guaranteed an AB
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 This Ginkel dude is nasty!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 And we're about to find out about Seawald.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Good, peace out Phillies and don't forget to fuck yourselves when you get home
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Happy to wake up and see this news , Philly must be sick , they had their ticket punched long ago , haha
