MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Three pitchers who pitched pretty well in the majors, a catcher better than Nido and a fifth guy with no ML experience.I'm not sure the Mets could match that offer.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Mainly what the Padres got was controllable pitching.- Michael King is a good reliever now with four ML seasons under his belt so two years of team control left- Drew Thorpe: 23 y/o, minors, 2nd round pick in '22- Jhony Brito - 26 this coming season. Was ML rookie in '23- Randy Vasquez (25) also a '23 rookie- Higashioka © is the only non-hurler in the bunch. Useful guy, a bit up and downAnd remember that Soto can be a FA at the end of '24 so this is all for a one year rental. Now one wouldthink the Yanx will throw everything they have at making his stay a lot longer but of course Misters Soto and Boros will have a say in these matters also.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Thanks lads , seems like a hefty haul , but for a Soto I guess it's fair
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 They didn't have to move Volpe or DominguezCome on Mets, I'm envious

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 btw, none of this appears to be official yet.Even mlb.com is saying nothing more than "talks are accelerating" and that a SDP/NYY trade appears "very likely".
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 I want it to fall apart , but another part of me wants it to go through and be a disaster, small of me I know but fuck them
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 That feels like a terrible package.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Yeah let's hope he's a "bad fit" in the clubhouse, as he may have been in San Diego. Also more proof of my theory that guys who get traded tend to get traded.I know there's more to it than that but I like it
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Let's be happy he's in the AL and hope that he doesn't sign a new contract before FA starts again.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 NBC showing "Soto traded to NY in blockbuster deal" in the morning news crawl, so it must be official. No details.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Well, I guess we have to hope that it turns out to be a one-year rental, and that in 2024 he'll be in Queens. Or Toronto or some other AL city.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 IIRC Judge isn't the best out in CF ?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 The MFYs will now face the challenge that they essentially traded all of their rotation depth and will need to add 2 arms from the outside now. Sure, Soto should do well there and obviously helps their offense. But in this case, this was more than just trading "depth" & prospects but also trading your # 4 SP (King) who was their 2nd best SP in 2023 all things considered.Later

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I don't know anything about the guys traded for Soto. But I just looked up Michael King and he's pretty good. Looks like a reliever turned starter. Don't know if the other younger guys are any good. What would have been a comparable return of Mets prospects?
