Crawling through series against the Nats and Royals is one thing, but the Orioles, Cubs, and Braves are bearing down on us like a trio of steam locomotives.

Today is Mackey Sasser's birthday

I get back from picking up the dogs from the groomer and I decide to check the score.

"It's still 3-0?" I think. I wonder if my phone is spontaneously refreshing as the game continues. So I reload the page.

"Oh, it was stuck. It's actually 9-0."

NOW I'll embrace comparisons with the worst team money can buy.

Incompetent is the only word that comes to mind.

The hard hit ball ratio in this series must have 3 or 4 to 1

Mets scored in four of the 27 innings.

Five of their eight total runs came via three HRs: a solo, a meaningless 2R HR, and a 2R HR where the runner was (ghost)-gifted to them, not someone who actually earned their way on.

The other runs scored on a bloop, an out (Sac Fly) and a bases loaded walk. So there was ONE non-HR RBI hit, a soft one.

And the most common phrase used during NYM ABs had to be 'Popped Up'

I know I banged the Baty drum this morning but jeez the Lindor

running from near second base to foul-third-base territory to bail

out Brett to catch a pop up was something. He looked at him like,

bro we got a ballgame going on here...

I was out all day getting medical tests and just got home and saw the box score.

Arauz started at second?

Who does Mauricio have to blow to get to the majors?

I don't even turn the TV on for Carrasco's starts anymore. I think he is my least favorite Mets starting pitcher ever.

"Why didn't they trade/unload Carrasco along with the others?"

"No one wanted him."

Carrasco wasn't good today -- I personally think Buck should have taken a decent 5 from him and pulled the plug -- but was doing reasonably well in limiting worse damage (until that final pitch he threw). And he was still several slots below being the worst issue today.

We seem to focus so much on the pitching (both before and since the big trades) that it's like the offensive and defensive shortcomings are getting ignored.

This Just In: WE GOT SHUT OUT FOR 17 STRAIGHT INNINGS BY THE 2nd WORST PITCHING STAFF IN BASEBALL!!!!! And, boy, wasn't the 2R HR that broke that stretch just super clutch?

They also went something like 1/50 w/RiSP (and that hit led to an out at home), produced contact like they were swinging with rolled-up damp newspapers, had ONE non-HR hit that drove in a run (all three games combined) and, like Michael Jackson, the players were wearing a glove on one hand for no apparent reason.

Carrasco sucks.

It's going to be interesting to see if the Mets win the Lindor deal in the long run. Carrasco has been a dud—though last year's 15 wins are sexy—and Lindor is good, but I'm not convinced he's quite convinced he's actually the superstar that signed a superstar contract a couple years ago. The slip in BA I'm worried might be an indication of unsavory things to come. He went from a .300s hitter in 2016 to a .270s hitter in 2018 to a .230s hitter two of the past three years. Meanwhile, Rosario is still chugging along, Gimenez isn't even 25, was an All-Star last year and has yet to fully hit his stride and ... oh yeah ... there's still two former well-regarded prospects, Isaiah Greene and Josh Wolf, still in development.
