The Mets head to take on the Tigers in Detroit, a city where they are 4-8 historically. If anybody wants to KTE the Tigers — like, if you live in Michigan or something — be my guesticle. But it amounts to the Tigers having good young starting pitching that they are having trouble keeping on the field. Javy Baez started terrible for the team and now he's rounded up enough of his old talent to merely be bad. DH and future Hall-of-Famer Miguel Cabrera has been even worse. Neither have homered for a team that has been bringing in the fences for about 20 years now. When Comerica — or whatever — was opened, it was the deepest park this side of the Rockies, but give them another 20 years and the fences will be scratching the back of the infield dirt.

But that hasn't helped the Tigers so far.

Rightfielder Matt Veirling has been the only guy consistently hitting. Matt was a semi-regular in Philadelphia, but he's still young, and could be a Cincinnati Reds-type o' guy who finds himself the second or third time around. Catcher Jake Rogers has only 10 hits in 47 at-bats, but six of them have been for extry bases.

"Lucchesi" means "guy from the city of Lucca," which is in Tuscany on the River Serchio. A guy from the city of Lucca will be pitching for the Mets, and he will be doing it with his left hand. Detroit counters with Michael Lorenzen, who kind of wears his hair swashbuckling style, which only makes him look like a middle reliever faking it as a starter, and while you don't want to make too much of a mane-and-facial-hair look, his numbers kind of support that assessment.

"Lorenzen" means "son of Lorenz" in a whole bunch of Germanic tongues, so it's kind of a Southern Europe/Northern Europe matchup, or it will be at the start, anyhow.

I don't know where you're watching the game, but I hear this song in my head and it tells me that maybe we all need to meet up at My Father's Place in Rosslyn.

Fairly eager to see how Scherzer and Verlander look in their appearances this week, scheduled for tomorrow and Thursday.

I just watched a 2006 live version of Detroit Rock City. It was quite

hokey. Amazing they sold so many records and tickets.

Oh, the Tigers. Let's sweep them.

Who are the only two Major Leaguers to homer, play in the field and earn a win in the same game?

The Tigers have two good young arms on the shelf in Casey Mize, Tommy John rehab, and Tarik Skubal

Austin Meadows is still out indefinitely with anxiety/depression issues which sidelined him for most of last season. Great talent, I hope they can find a treatment plan that works for him

Spencer Torkelson is the current future face of the Tigers and first baseman. He was a 2020 1st round draft pick who debuted last season. He teases big power but has yet to show much of it or hit much above .200

Riley Greene is another Tigers 2020 1st rounder and OF that can hit for power average and run some. He has been hitting near the top of the lineup with modest success

Zack McKinstry was acquired just weeks ago. He had some previous success as a Dodger and has been one of the better offensive options of late

Starter Eddy Rodriguez would be their "ace" A journeyman who gets guys out without fanfare and stays healthy

The weather tonight at game time is forecast to be 41 with light rain

It is going to be freaking cold if/when they play tonight

Probably good that Max and Verlander are not out in this weather today

However I am ok with Lucchesi out there

FanPointzduh has the over/under on tomorrow's attendance for Game 1

at 5,750. Split doubleheader under these circumstances is kinda lame.

No, Detroit is on EDT

Tigers, Reds, Pirates, and Guardians are the Central division teams within the Eastern time zone.
