I'm curious who opposed him that day , score etc , I would love to have seen him pitch

According to baseball reference, Marichal faced the Mets three times in 1967. A May 3 game at Shea, which was a night game, and the opener of a doubleheader in SF on June 3. Meaning this photo was most likely taken on July 4th.

This was a rare off day for Marichal, who gave up 14 hits and 8 runs (five earned) in an 8-7 Mets win. Runs for the good guys driven in by Tommy Davis, Ed Kranepool, Ron Swoboda, Ed Charles and Jerry Buchek. Jack Fisher got the win.

Interestingly, 1967 was the only year between 1962 and 1970 that Marichal didn't win at least 20 games, going just 14-10 that year.

Best pitcher of his generation not to win a Cy Young award. Marichal's best seasons coincided with Koufax 's best seasons.

Google up Marichal's Time mag and SI covers to get a good look at that famous leg kick.

Very unique motion. Dontrelle Willis, when he came up with the Marlins, had the closest leg kick to that in recent years.

Picture Jacob deGrom, except with a devastating hook, finishing his own games.

Gooden not only finished his games, just as importantly, he could be counted on to make his scheduled starts (year after year).

Until he no longer could.

deGrom, at his peak, had better stuff than Gooden. Granted, deGrom was as delicate as a hothouse flower and broke down often, but on stuff alone, deGrom was the best. You could even make a reasonable argument that at his peak, deGrom had the best stuff in all of baseball history. Better than everyone else. Koufax, Walter Johnson, Pedro. Everybody.

In between acts at the Beatles Shea Stadium appearance, promoter Sid Bernstein tries to plug one of the other bands he's been pitching around time by having the Shea scoreboard post "THE RASCALS ARE COMING!!"

Brian Epstein, aptly, refuses to let his band take the stage until the message is removed.
