G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 A new stadium grows in Flushing, to be built for NYCFC soccer.https://nyti.ms/3hKedTthttps://nyti.ms/3hKedTt
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Nice, if you like those other two sports.I'd get more excited hearing about a stadium complex they're building to bring the Jets back to Queens that could also accommodate tennis and soccer. Later
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Curious to know more about the housing angle in the deal... but NYCFC finally has a home! And maybe this means Queensboro FC finally becomes a team?

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 If it's largely upscale apartments/condos, it probably wouldn't do much to help residents except provide more inventory, but if they bake somewhat more affordable housing into it, I'd be very intrigued on if/how they pull it off.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 QFC has a stadium on the Queens college campus, I think. Having a bigger league a few miles away isn't going to help them when they get started this spring
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Bummer for QAnon FC. I'm not even sure if they'll kick a ball at this point? MLS/USL has existed in the same market but the USL side rarely fares well, if they survive.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Affordable housing is always a negotiation with developers who cannot get financing to make it worth it. Sane fight is happening right here in my hood where a big project would take up 3 blocks mostly for unaffordable housing
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Always reads like it's added to proposals like "GMO free!" and "Organic!". A smokescreen to get the other stuff approved and then somehow it's never as much, or as affordable, or buildable as it was pitched.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 That doesn't sound real promising. The comments are predictably twitter.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 I'm reading that it's 100% affordable housing. Will be interesting to see if that holds. This will be amazing if it all comes together.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 So where has NYCFC* been playing their games? My mind associates them with the MFYs* Francesa's total befuddlement upon learning this name during an interview with someone promoting the then soon-to-be-launched team was hilarious. He was expecting to learn this new team's nickname but couldn't get his head around this foreign concept. 'What, the team name is just a bunch of initials?'
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Looks like a great project. tremendous upgrade over the Iron Triangle, and might create an area that will be bustling year-round. And to do it without public money? Nice job, Mayor Adams!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Devil's in the details. But anything's an improvement over the chop shops.
