Rays always seem to get the better end of any deal, so caution is warranted. And they'll want good farm products- they won't take a Dom Smith off our hands.

If the Rays are going to make a deal to clear roster space, they'll have to do so by 6 pm tomorrow.

The Rays have a surplus of pitching, and a shortage of healthy pitching. Yonny Chirinos might be a good buy-low candidate, having finally gotten back to the mound after TJS followed by a freakish broken elbow while pitching batting practice. And Brooks Raley is a good lefty reliever they would probably move. I wouldn't go overboard to get either, but I'm definitely talking.

And I would assume that if they're making a deal to clear space on the 40-man roster, they would be looking to get prospects in return who aren't yet Rule-5 eligible.

Rizzo re-signed with the MFYs and Joc Pederson took the qualifying offer and re-signed with SF.(taking one potential FA outfielder off the market)



I'm waiting for the announcements of which players have been added to the major league rosters to protect them from the Rule V Draft. That deadline is today, but so far ... nothing.
