bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 The Mets finally return home for two games with the Miami Marlins. The Mets have a (1, 1.5, 2) game lead on the 2d place Braves who continue their three-game series in WSH. Tonight, Carlos Carrasco takes the mound for the Mets. Carrasco's last outing was a poor one, against MIL. He faced MIA on 9/10, went 6 innings and only gave up 1 ER. This will be his 5th start against MIA. For the Marlins, it's Pablo Lopez coming off a strong outing against CHC, 6 2/3, 1 ER. The Mets crushed him on 9/10 when he gave up 8 ER in 3 2/3. This is the 5th time he will face the Mets (not counting at least 2 or 3 times in ST). Game time is 7:10.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 With a small amount of effort this year, the baseball schedule could have been mostly accommodating to Rosh Hashanah this year, with the two-day observance falling from sundown Sunday to sundown Tuesday, which is already the most inactive period in any baseball week.Of course, observation of the prohibition on travel would still be problematic.

My opinion is that a New York team shouldn't play during Yom Kippur but the Mets will be playing twice. The Tuesday game could have been a day game but the Wednesday games are mandated to start at a specific time so the Mets couldn't play on Wednesday night.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 no team should cater to any religion. just play ball.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 I have to agree. I don't mind that they play Sundays. As a matter of fact Sunday sports are illegal in PA, except between certain hours. I just found that out recently. That means the Phillies, Steelers, etc are breaking the law if they play Sunday nighthttps://www.mytwintiers.com/news-cat/pennsylvania-news/pa-bill-would-allow-baseball-football-games-to-be-played-on-sundays/amp/https://www.mytwintiers.com/news-cat/pennsylvania-news/pa-bill-would-allow-baseball-football-games-to-be-played-on-sundays/amp/
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 It doesn't seem practicable to start scheduling around religious holidays, given the length of the schedule. There are of course games regularly scheduled on all sorts of holidays across many religions.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Sure, but not all religious holidays include prohibitions on certain activities, but I didn't mean to create a fuss.I agree that the Mets shouldn't cater. The cost of the matzoh alone would be prohibitive.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I read somebody (don't remember who) saying that it might be better for the Mets to be a Wild Card. They'll have a weaker opponent in the Wild Card series and then they would only have to beat the Dodgers in a best-of-five instead of a best-of-seven, which might be an easier task.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 That seems like over-thinking it.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Edgy MD wrote:That seems like over-thinking it.Seconded. A WC has to win 13 postseason games (2 WC, 3 LDS, 4 LCS, 4 WS) to become champions, while a division winner on a bye only has to win 11 more games.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 Jerry Blevins in the TV booth tonight for Keith and Ron.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 haven't been particularly enamored with Blevins, though it's better than Zeile at least. Wish they'd break the formula.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I think the plan should be to always have a three-man booth. When Ronnie is away, they can rotate in guest pitching-type analysts one series at a time, and when Keith's away they can rotate in guest batting-type guys.Among other things, that would keep them from these situations where they have neither and the substitute is both inexperienced and unfamiliar to the audience., but asked to carry water for, not one, but two seasoned vets.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Not sure why Rojas didn't take two bases on Each of those bloops, and equally surprised Gary and/or Blevibs didn't say something.
