Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Pitcher Mychal Givens, not the catcher, yet. Per Andy Martino. Not sure who is leaving. He's 6-2, with a 2.66 ERA and two saves.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 numbers look good, should be a solid add at least. Velocity down this year, but maybe that's part of his extra effectiveness.Probably needed more than this, but it helps at least.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 Per Trade Rumors: After months of speculation, the Cubs will pass the trade deadline without moving two of their biggest trade chips. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports that both catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ will both be staying put in Wrigleyville.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Mychal Givens and Darin Ruf.Crikey.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Contreras was definitely in the yearbook as the boy most likely to be traded. And then he wasn't.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Who did the Mets give up for Givens?Later
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Mychal Givens and Darin Ruf.Crikey.I was go9ing to say, "Damn Wilpons", but.......
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Who the Mets gave up is Saúl González.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The trade I really wanted was to take Contreras off the Cubs hab=nds. He would have been a significant upgrade at catcher or as a righthanded DH on other days. I had seen last reports that the Cubs wanted top notch prospects (Mauricio and some pitching prospects) as well as MLB ready players J.D.Davis or David Peterson for Contreras. Would have been a significant upgrade, but the Mets (and everybody else) apparently found the Cubs asking price a little too steep for a short-term rental.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Fun Fact: Saúl Gonzalez is, doubtlessly, a tall young man, listed at 6'7" by both milb.com and baseball-reference.com.But after that, they differ somewhat. The former source lists him at 235 pounds, while the latter source says 288.That's almost a four-stone difference!

I get why they'd want more value than the draft pick they'd get from giving him a QO, but they appeared to be asking for quite a bit more than that. I'd have balked too.In the meantime, Alvarez has a .789 OPS at AAA despite a criminally unlucky .229 BABIP after yesterday's game. He's doing better than the basic stat line makes it look. He could still be the answer in September and October.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Do we know if the QO is going to be a thing this year? As I recall, they kicked that can down the road in order to come to a CBA that would allow the season to start. If the players agree to an international draft, the QO system will be eliminated. I don't recall if there was a drop-dead date by which that had to happen.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 And the int'l draft idea was re-rejected.
