deGrom mows down the first two before hitting the number three guy with an 0-2 backfoot slider.

Cleanup batter goes down looking.

Alex Ramirez leads off with a walk. Tzu-Wei Lin, also on a rehab assignment (from Syracuse) bounces into an easy double-play.

DeGrom threw 18 pitches in the first. I think he was scheduled for only 25, so ... .

Posted

Consuegra caroms a ball off the shortstop's glove and hustles to second.

Lugo knocks one up the middle and the METS TAKE A 1-0 LEAD!!!

RUN SUPPORT FOR DEGROM!!

Posted

De Los Santos walks, and the Mets have Bargallo on the ropes.

The only Met to make an out is a slumming guy from Syracuse who hit into two with one swing.

Posted

DeGrom sets down two more batters on six pitches and his evening is done.

Six batters — five strikeouts and a hit batsman.

We can stop looking for the ugliest Mets jerseys ever made. Jake found them.

If deGrom heads to Brooklyn for his next start, he won't be alone. After the game, the organization promoted outfielders Alex Ramirez and Stanley Consuegra, along with pitcher Dominic Hamel, who went six in relief of deGrom for his fifth win.

Hmmm, with a little more advance notice, I coulda seen this one live. I'm about 40 minutes from Port Lucie now. Port Lucie is practically on top of Jupiter, too--basically a home game for both sides. I think they're closer together than Citi and Yankee fields.

We can add that design to the thread about bad cocaine outcomes.

Not much traffic between them, though. And no bridges or other impediments, either. Straight shot on I-95. I've made both trips many times, and it's longer but it seems shorter, I guess. I've never driven from Yankee Stadium to Citi in less than 40 minutes.

As the crow (or let's change that to a city hawk) flies, Skankmee Stadium

and 41 Seaver Way are approximately 6.7 miles from each other.

Do you not do much driving in New York? A Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM might take you 40 minutes between the stadiums.

Otherwise, you'd have to be taking several wrong turns for it to take 40 minutes.

Well, I left NYC because I was tired of sitting in traffic. When I think of all the hours I spent on the Cross-Bronx alone, or waiting in the toll lines at the Whitestone Bridge....

Not disputing that, not disputing anything.

Just pointing out that they're relatively not all that far from each other.

Responding to r_t. Maybe I have a soft spot for people complaining about my city, especially if they haven't been here in a while. (Toll lines at the Whitestone ceased being a thing at least 10 years ago or more. For a while, you had to be aggressive to keep the idiots out of the EZPass lanes, and then they switched to open-road tolling).

Matt Harvey and Steven Matz each had a minor league start this weekend too.

With Wheeler going against St. Louis, the only one idle was Noah Syndergaard.

Since we're all over the map, I haven't driven in the city since the 2000

World Series. Train/subway > motor vehicle.
