nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Yeah, even with all of Cohen's money there just isn't likely to be a meaningful starting pitcher available for trade in mid-May. We'll need to wait for some teams like the Reds to decide "fuck it, we suck and its time to trade Castillo"
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 You've got hunnerts of players you've been developing for years according to an ongoing PLAN. You don't want want to throw the PLAN out the window willy-nilly because of an occurrence that was, frankly, expected to happen within the schemata of the PLAN sooner or later. A hasty radical departure from the PLAN shows that you never had faith in the PLAN in the first place, nor in the men and women who developed it.Know who has totally been a starting pitcher most of his career? Adonis Medina has.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 I agree that the Mets shouldn't trade one of their top prospects in order to replace about ten starts from Max Scherzer. But there may be other trades that can be made and they should at least be explored. And yeah, Adonis Medina is certainly someone to consider for the rotation.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 They've signed Trevor Cahill too. He needs to do some extended spring training to get into game shape, but it's not the worst idea to have him as an arm that they can hope to catch a bit of lightening in a bottle with. He was good in 2018 and 2020, bad in 2019 and 2021 ...
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 Luis Castillo goes tonight in Toronto-- betcha Mets scouts'll be there, good test against good club.

It would be quite reasonable for the to think that in the longer-term they want to have plans for these things but you can't draft and develop an army of starting pitching replacements overnight. the 'plan' may very well be that they have identified some combination of Mauricio/Baty/Vientos (hopefully not Alvarez) as being hte most expendable out that group and available when the need for pitching arose. trading one of them for pitching would have thus been their plan.( and though Cohen hasn't been running the Mets for long, you could say that this is a perfectly viable long-term plan to - the idea that hitting prospects and less injury prone and you are best off developing them and trading them as opposed to drafting young pitchers and overseeing their tommy john recoveries.)2. I didn't say give up the farm anyway. spending Steve's cash on contract dumps that could help the Mets doesnt hurt any long term plan.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 He insults the Japanese ambassador, and then two starts later, with no prior symptoms, just succumbs to a magically sprained oblique? Batters injure their obliques, not pitchers! If you don't think that's more than a coincidence, you've drunk the Hatakosen Litchi-flavored Ramune, my friends.
