Exactly. That's so weird. But those guys have to be in Syracuse already. For example, the Rochester Red Wings showed video of their bus leaving this morning to head to Toledo for their opener tomorrow, but their "roster" on their site has 49 names on it. Like, do you not know who's on that bus? Can't somebody cross-check this stuff for the internet? LOL

Jankowski and Palka are both in today's game, so odds are they won't be in Syracuse tomorrow. (I still think Travis will make the OD roster, although I think Palka will be in Syracuse soon enough.)

I very rarely attend April baseball games locally because the weather is, most often, a crapfest. Tonight was beautiful - even at the end of the game at 9:15 it was still a comfy 55F out there.



The baby Mets got spanked the way a baby often might. Other'n that, fun was had all around.

WTF?

You'd think the manager would have known the starter for the second game of the season by now.

The Syracuse Mets have obviously escaped any roster restrictions by ordering from the all-you-can-eat buffet. They've got dozens on their roster. They've got a taxi squad. They've got guys who are reported to be with the team but haven't been activated. They can pitch seven guys every day (a staff of 19!), and it doesn't matter, because they're still taking it on the chin.



When they are not getting their asses delivered to them COD by the Yankees' affiliate in Albany, they're getting swirlied by the Yankees' former affiliate in Columbus. It all adds up to a 1-6 start leaving them 5 1/2 games out in dead fucking last in the International League East standings. In tribute to the 60th anniversary of the 1962 Mets, dead fucking last means tenth in the IL's ten-team divisions. Nowhere to go but up, but they are looking up at a lot fot eams.



While starting a game no longer means all that much time to put an imprint on it, but rather simply says that you're the first of many pitchers, the strongest starter thus far has been Mike Montgomery. The veteran Mariner/Cub/Royal has pitched 7 2/3 innings over two starts while yielding but three hits and a lone run on a homer. Striking out seven and walking one, he currently seems to be the next in line for any emergency starts that might pop up.



You like relievers. Sure! We all do, in theory! Then Joely goes out there and we start theorizing somebody else!



Well, theorize Colin Holderman. The 2016 community college draftee has had a long trip to triple-A, but now he's making the most of it, allowing but a single baserunner an no earnies in 3 1/3 innings. Colin is coming off an autumn of pummeling, where he got absolutely hammered in the Arizona Fall League, so this strong start has got to be particularly gratifying, and for now, carer saving.



I know what you might hope to see is hitting. Well, there hasn't been a lot of it to see, unless you're looking at Daniel Paika. The one-time White Sock is trying to recapture his 2008 fifth-in-rookie-of-the-year-voting form, and has taken a strong first step, providing two doubles and a homerun to the cause in his first dozen at bats. He is splitting time between first base and right field, and for now, looks like your best bet if Mark Canha blows a cylinder.



The Orangemets try to scratch their way back to relevance today, continuing their six-game set at Columbus. Their starter hasn't been announced, but Jordan Yamamoto hasn't been launched yet, so maybe it's him if he's healthy to go. Having lost the first two games of the series 5-0 and 5-0, he better hope for defensive flubs by the Clippers. It might be the only support he gets.
