IGT 9/26/21 NYM@MIL: Uecker Sucks

There, I've said it. Other than his scripted work in "Major League", Bob Uecker sucks. His book sucked, his announcing sucks, his baseball career sucked (his shtick is based on it). He sucks. I know that this is a minority opinion. I thought that Harry Caray sucked too but when I was in Chicago once I dined at his steakhouse, he walked in and I was starstruck. I wouldn't cross the street for Uecker. Because he sucks.



Mets at Milwaukee, 2:10 PM, ET. Carrasco and F. Peralta. It's also on TBS with Ron Darling in the booth. MIL can clinch the NL Central with a win. F them and their Selig past and their artery-clogging sausages. Nice unis, though.

Congrats to Lindor on his 18th HR. 20 would be nice--it wouldn't make up for the rest of the season but it would be nice.



Pete gets drilled again. Gary and Keith make excuses for how many times he gets hit (he's on top of the plate) but perhaps opposing teams don't want him to hit a HR and/or his HR postures got on a few nerves. Charging the mound is off-brand for Pete but maybe he could start and they could send Nido out to "hold him back".



For Carrasco's last start they should use an opener.

Remember when we were delighted to find out that Carlos Carrasco was ALSO in the Lindor trade? Yeesh. He was injured in ST but no excuses in '22.

Congratulations to another team we ought to have played better against having made it look easy, doing a thing that should have been easy for us, all else relative, in this blessed season.

Ordinarily I'd say fuck the Cardinals, but geez, we could have helped make things a little interesting for the Brewers this week!



Instead the Cards are surging with 16 straight wins and the Brewers clinch with a damn sweep!

Ya gotta admit, bringing the IF in with one out and runners on 2nd & 3rd, then getting not only the grounder you wanted but an IF pop-up after that and then another grounder with the infield in ... and somehow turning all that into three runs allowed plus have the inning still going takes A LOT of creativity.

I didn't see the game. We went to the Big E (The Eastern States Exposition - the sixth largest fair in the country) with my wife, daughter and grandson.

The Clydesdale horses were there and after their walk they left a huge dump in the street. I told my wife, "There's a pile of crap to look at, since I won't be watching the Mets game today".

I was right.

My wi-fi sometimes craps out outside. Funny thing is, there's gonna be people

reading this that weren't (or barely) born when this came out. Ueck doesn't

suck, his schtick and personality are just dated. That happens sometimes when

you're knocking on 90's door.

I was at a Hartford Whalers playoff game against Montreal years ago. There were Canadiens fans in the last few rows, waving a flag and cheering. They were winning 3-0 and the Hartford fans were getting annoyed. It looked like a fight might break out. I turned around and shouted "Who got you your tickets, Bob Uecker?" Everyone started laughing, and tempers cooled. Even the Canadians knew that commercial.

Maybe the best line Uecker got off was one where he and McCarver (one time roommates in their StL days) were being interviewed by Jack Buck.

And while one or the other is telling a story of late nights on the road back in the day, Buck, realizing that he's got a family audience for his show,

chimes in with, 'but you guys weren't married back then, right?'. Uecker, without missing a beat says, 'No, we were still just dating'.

After a brutal playoff game, Gary Carter (or somebody) mentioned that he usually needed three cups to get through a season, but that he had broken two in this one game alone.



Bob Ueker, part of the coverage team, found this remarkable, and said so on The Tonight Show the next evening, noting to Johnny Carson that this was especially impressive considering "cups these days" are made out of metal.



Johnny, knowing his role, asked Ueck what they were made of back when he was playing, and Bob replied, "Glass."
