Happy for Kooz and his family. Sad that this is the team that's showing up to honor him in performance. Because they suck a lot of butt.

We would love to see him pull a Field of Dreams and put his uniform on and pitch again.

But he'd would probably lose 1-0.

Tonight the Mets will face a pitcher (Sean Nolin) who is 0-2 with an ERA of 9.00 and WHIP of 2.43 this season. His career numbers aren't aren't much better, 1-5, ERA 7.28 and WHIP 1.90. The Mets will start Marcus Stroman, who has has pitched very well the majority of the season, but has suffered from a total lack of offensive support. He has deserved much better.

I will not be surprised if the Mets somehow make Nolin look like the second coming of Koufax tonight. Stroman will likely give another strong start, but will unfortunately give up 2 runs, which virtually assures him another loss. I hope I am wrong, but this is how I see it in my mind. Luckily, MLB has me blacked out for all Washington games, so I won't need to watch the Mets flail and fail offense.

Hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised when I will be pleasantly surprised when I check the score tomorrow morning.

And one of those games was against us (and Stroman), the first gave of a DH two weeks ago. But yup. This looks like a tidy 2-1 loss tonight, because this team is abjectly terrible.

(Saw Nolin earlier this summer here in Rochester, where he pitched five mostly clean innings against the WooSox.)

Pretty much the last legs here. If the Mets can win like.. 9/10 suddenly things are alive, but barring that, that math's against them.

I don't know why, but I thought this was a day game and that I even thought

I remembered that that the number ceremony started at 12:45. I'm losing it,

and glad I didn't jump on a train which I considered early this morning.

I'm hoping that maybe they could retire the #1 tonight as well.

As in one run (or fewer) scored in six of their 19 August losses.

Or as in a one-run deficit like in nine of their August losses.

While they're at it the Mets should tell Luis that his number (19) is being started and as a result, he can't manage anymore.

They're so confident Stroman is going to strike everybody out that they're playing without a first baseman!

Memories of Satchel Paige.

I love a team with guts like that.

So who's going to score our run tonight?

Well now we know.

The remaining bats will not proceed to take the rest of the night off.

Another great moment on the bases for Villar. I'm sure that JD's confidence is sky-high sitting against a lefty.

And again, Alonso, Lindor and Baez made this garbage starter look like a star.
