He knows who the fans came to see.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 Megill comes up grabbing his own behind on that bunt. I am hoping it's because it's fun to rub your own ass.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 I think somebody needs to tell Gary that that was A) not a live shotand the sun, not the moon
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Not Gary's first oversight of the night.Eighth inning. Good time to strike.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Mets hitters are owning the warning track tonight.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Interesting ph here Villar for McCann
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Right call. The righty-throwing sliders have been a nightmare for McCann most of the year, and this guy's slider was making righthanders look stoopit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Drury's magic starting to run out a bit.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 In April, if I told you that Brandon Drury would get a key AB in August against a righty while Michael Conforto was on the bench and it was the right move (once you comprehended that Drury was on the Mets) you wouldn't believe it.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Another 8th inning where the RP fails and the other team extends the lead... except this RP is not one that will be DFA'd after the game.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 That young man in a Mets lid behind the plate with the great headful of salad has been wasted for about six innings now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 Good time to awaken, Michael Conforto.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 And that's what waking up looks like.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 This team is really on the skids
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 They're in Philly for the weekend. I'm actually going to CBP Friday night with Phillie fans- my first live baseball of 2021. I'm dreading it.This is a discombobulated team that has depended on the rest of the division playing even worse. They didn't get a real starter at the deadline and did nothing to upgrade the bullpen. That bill will come due shortly.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 And this was kinda my point at the beginning of this thread. "We are in first place" is a smokescreen for a very flawed team. They are 29th in runs scored on August 3. They have a negative run differential. This is no longer a small sample size. Their approach at the plate has yielded terrible results. But they remain steadfastly committed to it rather than adjusting. Conforto, Smith, Lindor, McNeil and McCann are badly underperforming compared to expectations coming in. They are in first place by less than three games due to a hot streak in May where the subs performed well and the pitching was flawless. That team is no longer relevant for the last 59 games.Last night our starting pitcher gave up a first inning grand slam. Our offense wasn't able to put 4 on the board the rest of the way. So even if the pitching had been perfect, it wouldn't have mattered. This team has been moving backwards for a while. I'm not saying folks shouldn't be optimistic. There's plenty of time and plenty of opportunity to turn it around. But to improve, a team has to show a willingness to improve. I haven't seen any trace of that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Bullpen shmullpen.Improving a team with bullpen moves is almost always a fool's errand.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I get pessimistic when I don't see a catalyst. Baez by himself isn't doing it for me, just another low-OBP guy at the front of the lineup.I'm not even sure if this is doable or ultimately wise but what if Luis started doling out Trachsel Cures. Schedule 'em:Conforto, report to Syracuse immediately, see you in one week. When he comes back, Smith goes downWhen Smith comes back, McCann goes downIf Smith and McCann don;t wanna go down then start producing more NOW.Then after 3 weeks, hopefully while we stay above water, Zimmo and Lindor are healthy and the healthy but struggling guys have been humbled and forgiven.Step on the gas Aug. 25.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 They are very much a different team without Nimmo in the lineup. This is all the more exacerbated by the black hole that Pillar fell into.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 They need someone to carry this team on his back, like Cespedes did in 2015. Alonso is giving it his best shot, but it's not resulting in as many wins as we need it to.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I'll take contagious hitting and keeping the line moving.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Author Posted August 3, 2021 Don't underestimate the lack of energy on the field since Lindor came up lame. He was pushing his teammates along the entire time he was out there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I agree. His numbers weren't what we wanted them to be, but he definitely had an impact. He's been missed.
