Acuna, Freeman, Ozuna in bottom 9

And Freddie hasn't struck a ball NOT hard in his last 6 or 7 ABs

It's no longer a small sample size. McCann is an atrocious hitter.

Well then the bad news is, so is Lindor

Well, we ran out of luck.

Or, perhaps more true, we McCann out of luck.

My first question to Alou is how we let the game end without Alonso getting a swing. Get him in there instead of McCann, maybe the breaking pitches start bouncing.

Tough loss. McCann needs to sit or something, why is he still healthy when almost no one else is?

I wonder if May was able to pitch if they had a lead then should he have started the 8th in lieu of Loup?

With a runner on 3B and less than 2 out, Maz would have found a way. McCann couldn't find a way with Google Maps.

Let's not get carried away here and pretend that Mazeika's RBI "ability" has been anything other than small sample sized good fortune.

Sore wrist/hand. Wasn't available.

Well, I missed that, but I ought to have guessed.

Christ. That stinks. Going to taste this loss in my mouth for two days now.

Mets a little lucky there. Sandoval hit a bases loaded bullet to end the inning. That would have pretty much put the game out of reach if it hadn't been right at Villar.

Underrated-- and smart-- roll of the dice, this; baiting Snitker into pulling Morton was risky, but worth it, given that our offense is riding on four spare tires. Worked out, too, since we tallied three against the middle relief.

Credit where credit is due.

Yeah, it almost blew up, but it was a worthwhile risk. It would have been a more obvious move if they had a quality reliever who wasn't exhausted to pitch to Sandoval — who the Mets might be trading for before the season is done.

I've seen Morton at least a dozen times, but I felt like I never saw him saw him. That curve was staggering, and even fouling one off was a moral victory. The rest of his repertoire was junk, but it didn't matter, because you had to sit on the curve. Maybe the Mets will be trading for him before the season is done.

I wanted to give Khalil Lee a hug at the end of the night.

I would love either or both, but I don't see Atlanta giving US a toy to play with. (I suspect Villar was to be something like our Sandoval-equivalent-- a backup infielder, yes, but also a hopeful lightning-in-a-bottle veteran acquisition. Jose Martinez, too.)

And, yeah, Morton's upgraded significantly since we used to see him with the Blackbeards... but then, he has spent the last four seasons in modern-pitcher finishing school (HOU, TB).
