Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Now, can McCann make a hard out to the outfield? I ask so little of him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Maybin playing station to station ball in a no-contact inning so far.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 Maz would have gotten the run in. Garbage, his D notwitstanding.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Smith, McCann, Peraza, not a well struck ball among the three of them. Terrible.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) Acuna, Freeman, Ozuna in bottom 9And Freddie hasn't struck a ball NOT hard in his last 6 or 7 ABs Edited May 19, 2021 by Guest
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 It's no longer a small sample size. McCann is an atrocious hitter.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 When Peraza hit that one, I thought it was going to fall in LF. I got excited for a split second.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Christ. That stinks. Going to taste this loss in my mouth for two days now.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 It was just a matter of time. The Braves did just about all they could to give the game away, but we just wouldn't accept their gift.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 No Gary, I guess nobody told Barnes Acuna sits on the first pitch.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Well, we ran out of luck.Or, perhaps more true, we McCann out of luck.My first question to Alou is how we let the game end without Alonso getting a swing. Get him in there instead of McCann, maybe the breaking pitches start bouncing.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 Tough loss. McCann needs to sit or something, why is he still healthy when almost no one else is?I wonder if May was able to pitch if they had a lead then should he have started the 8th in lieu of Loup?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 With a runner on 3B and less than 2 out, Maz would have found a way. McCann couldn't find a way with Google Maps.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Let's not get carried away here and pretend that Mazeika's RBI "ability" has been anything other than small sample sized good fortune.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Well, I missed that, but I ought to have guessed.=Fman99 post_id=64837 time=1621476833 user_id=86]Christ. That stinks. Going to taste this loss in my mouth for two days now.

That would have pretty much put the game out of reach if it hadn't been right at Villar.Underrated-- and smart-- roll of the dice, this; baiting Snitker into pulling Morton was risky, but worth it, given that our offense is riding on four spare tires. Worked out, too, since we tallied three against the middle relief.Credit where credit is due.

It would have been a more obvious move if they had a quality reliever who wasn't exhausted to pitch to Sandoval — who the Mets might be trading for before the season is done.I've seen Morton at least a dozen times, but I felt like I never saw him saw him. That curve was staggering, and even fouling one off was a moral victory. The rest of his repertoire was junk, but it didn't matter, because you had to sit on the curve. Maybe the Mets will be trading for him before the season is done.I wanted to give Khalil Lee a hug at the end of the night.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 The ump gave them a run and they won by a run:

(I suspect Villar was to be something like our Sandoval-equivalent-- a backup infielder, yes, but also a hopeful lightning-in-a-bottle veteran acquisition. Jose Martinez, too.)And, yeah, Morton's upgraded significantly since we used to see him with the Blackbeards... but then, he has spent the last four seasons in modern-pitcher finishing school (HOU, TB).
