bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 (edited) Perhaps:Alonso for TovarLugo for Drew Smith (40-man issue)Pillar for Lee/Maybin (if it's Maybin it solves the 40-man issue). Edited May 30, 2021 by Guest
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 I was thinking pretty much the same thing. Definitely Tovar and Lee. Maybe Barnes instead of Smith?
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 Mason Williams: also a fine guitarist
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 Mets Roster Central will be keeping a vigil. The human in me is rooting for Cameron Maybin. To be honest, the Met fan in me still thinks that he has a better chance of helping this year than Lee does. Wishful thinking'll mess you up.That said, somebody is going have be removed from the 40, and any Maybin demotion will have to include exactly that. Most of the guys at Met Roster Central have their money on Tovar hitting the waiver wire, though.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 I don't see any reason to keep Tovar or Maybin on the roster long-term, so I have to figure they're "victims of the numbers game," as they say. And I would much rather lose Barnes than Smith too.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 Martino: "Mets to option Khalil Lee, Sean Reid-Foley and Patrick Mazeika to make room for Pete Alonso, Seth Lugo, and Kevin Pillar".NO!!!! Maz over Tovar!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 With Alonso back there's less need for a third catcher than a spare IF with McNeil, JDD, & Guillirme all still out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 I like Mazeika's bat and his approach, but I found Reid-Foley's presence to be a meaningfully more useful asset than Maz was. But I understand the guys with options tend to go first. They're still going to have to bump somebody off the 40 in the next few hours.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 The Puma reports Maybin and McWilliams have been 40-69ed
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 That's something. McW. was something of an investment.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2021 Author Posted June 1, 2021 INF Travis Blankenhorn has been claimed off waivers from Seattle. He has been added to the 26-man roster and is with the team tonight in Arizona. Blankenhorn will wear #73. INF Wilfredo Tovar has been designated for assignment.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 With Blankenhorn and Quattlebaum, we now have two Mets who have names of characters that could have been played by Groucho Marx.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2021 Author Posted June 1, 2021 How Travis Blankenhorn got in Hugh Quattlebaum's pajamas, I'll never know!

He has been added to the 26-man roster and is with the team tonight in Arizona. Blankenhorn will wear #73. Lefty hitting second baseman who has shown some HR power in the minors. Baseball-reference says "Second baseman and pinch runner", but since he's listed at 235 pounds, I'm guessing there might just be some better pinch-running options.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 "A pleasure to meet you, Mister ... ?" "Quattlebaum." "Hugh?" "Well, I don't see anyone else here." "I mean are you Hugh?" "Last I checked. Could I be someone else?" "You could be Mike Quattlebaum." "I don't see how. We've only just met!" "Well, I'm Blankenhorn." "Do what you want, my good man, but some things should be private!" "As long as you're Hugh." "So far, so good." "Someone over there told me you could be Mike Quattlebaum." "Well, if you play your cards right. The night is young, and so far, I haven't gotten any better offers."
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Author Posted June 3, 2021 Maybin and Tovar cleared waivers and are headed to Syracuse, where they will be joined by Luis Guillorme on rehab and Cheslor Cuthbert, a former Royals and White Sox infielder recently released by the Reds.

dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Cheslor Cuthbert is one of my favorite baseball names. I had him on a fantasy team once, just for his name. I want Cheslor Cuthbert to be a Met.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Well, he homered to put Syracuse ahead in his first plate appearance with the organization, so you may well get your wish.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 "Mets Fix" raises a good question: Mason Williams is out of options while Almora has one left. Is it worth losing Williams to call up Almora when Pillar is healthy and McKinney is hitting well?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 And it's not like Almora was hitting.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 I'd stash Almora in the 'Cuse right now. He'll get his chances.
