Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 =nymr83 post_id=30188 time=1579566844 user_id=54]Video today of the Astros shelling Stroman, garbage can banging clearly audible. Stroman pissed. This is why Beltran could not stay, how would you like the guy who cheated you to be your new boss?
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Whether you agree or not about its seriousness, the Astros' actions-- players included-- seem to have crossed a pretty serious line in the sand for a lot of MLBers, judging from the https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-cheating-scandal-players-react-to-the-many-layers-of-the-sign-stealing-fallout/vast majority of the dozens who've responded publicly (and that's just the Twitter-active ones). It's not hard to imagine that being a source of friction between an active participant in the cheating (regardless of how active you believe that to be, or how much it matters) and a player he's trying to motivate and direct, especially if said active participant is a little light in the experience-cum-authority department anyway.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 yeah and the vast majority of MLB players are idiots too. Didn't a lot of pitchers get all whiny about steroids too even though they were just as roided up, if not more? Hell, plenty of pitchers get all up in arms about the shift too, even though they're dead wrong about it hurting them. Plenty of players have come out and been all like "hey, like, those other guys do this too"

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 I said would've been. Funny how working together towards a common goal makes you care less about nebulous things from years ago.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 And The Mole, not to be confused with The Old Mole, is now leaving YES for an unspecified role in the Met front office! My guess? Stevie wants to ensure a Met NY on Beltran's eventual HOF plaque.https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/mets-to-hire-carlos-belt%20ran-for-front-office-role.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/mets-to-hire-carlos-belt ran-for-front-office-role.html
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 While for good reasons, that mid-00s run has been looked upon negatively in the nearly 20 years since Omar and Willie were hired. Kind of intriguing to see the creeping back of that era's legacy with a few players at OTD, and Beltran back in the fold.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Beltran and the YES TV booth was not a good fit.Probably not all his fault: his English isn't great; the YES booth is often over-crowded leaving each guy scant time to sound insightful; he, along with co-newbie Cameron Maybin, came off as diversity hires when they were thrown into the deep end of the pool with scant MFY connections and seemingly little or no prep work. But if that stands as a first step for Carlos in his rehab towards a job in a front office then maybe it wasn't lost time after all. Maybin hooked on with the Tiger booth this winter (his first club) so somebody must see something in him too.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Yeah, from Beltran's perspective after losing the Mets manager job he had to be thinking that any job with a team was a good job for a year just to remove the taint of hiring him
