kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 53!, Overruled! and New Blood
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 Other than "Bro", I want to vote for all of them.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 I assume the NFL or perhaps MFYs grabbed the back pages on 9/30, which is too bad given how Game 162 ended at Citi.OVERRULED lost my vote because fuck references to Aaron Judge.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I went all-Alonso. And I loved Overruled.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Newsday really stepping up. 53 is terrific.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Actually, KING OF POP! is better than 53!More creative headline goes to the Post.Picture is the same. Newsday's reproduces better here but on the newsstand they probably look about the same.Where Newsday falls short is the awkward breaks, lengthy and somewhat exaggerated exposition in the subhed that they doomed themselves to by going with the one-word hed.Alonso new rookieSultan of Swatafter record blastPost's subhed is much more succinct, doesn't insult memory of Babe Ruth and tells the story.I will give Newsday the edge for layout, putting the distracting box on top rather than along the right edge. But that's the only area where they beat the Post head to head on this story.Clear to me the Newsday editors were trying to win the bullshit "most positive news" contest with this cover and not the "tabloid derby."btw, I also voted for OVERRULED, which was a unique take and a good headline but IMO, not as strong as POP
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 You're right. Changed my vote
