Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Narron will always be the guy who replaced Thurman Munson. Now, even more dramatically, he may be the guy who replaces Jim Riggleman!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 I think it's more of a sheet on top of a notebook than a Narron notebook en toto, but good for the organization if they can actually fill a notebook with information on Jerry Narron.I'm more interested in what messages would be on that phone, but perhaps folks were looking at that when the discovered Narron's name. Also, I have to say that, to me, Baldy Beltran is Yankee Beltran, and I hope that, whatever hair he has left, it makes a comeback in the Mets dugout.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Our old friend Jeremy Hefner is the clubhouse leader as the next pitching coach, Tracky says. Heyman says its like Chili Davis returns as hitting coach

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Chris Fetter is a computer-generated character, right?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Michigan connectionAll you need to know.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2019 Author Posted November 12, 2019 Fredi Gonzalez reportedly a bench coach candidate. “He didn't go to Michigan,” according to a highly placed Mets source, “but what a splendid first name!”
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Stylewise, wasn't Fredi, like, all kinds of red-assy? Like, Cuban Earl Weaver/Guillen-type, ejections galore? If so, might be an interesting pairing, given that El Es Aqui is generally Senor Sangfroid (to his PR detriment among a certain play-the-game-the-right-way contingent)... but it ain't my favorite disposition in a dugout, and I can't imagine it wouldn't grate on most of last year's returnees.

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Quick, possibly dumb question: any reason he isn't on-salary in Boston?Frayed Knot wrote:Flushing native, former first round draft pick (22nd overall by Toronto in 1990), and former Oakland, Cleveland, Atlanta, MFY, Texas (and Oakland again) hurler Steve Karsay https://nypost.com/2019/11/17/ex-yankee-steve-karsay-to-interview-for-mets-pitching-coach/will interview for the NYM pitching coach jobThe 47 y/o Karsay worked in the Indians org from 2012-2018 then spent 2019 as the Brewers bullpen coach. His previous accomplishments in Queens involved pitching for Christ the King HS and later serving up a certain post-9/11 HR to Mr. PiazzaHe's done so much for this city already.I remember thinking that Hefner-- when not hurt-- was getting the most out of whatever little he brought to the table, skills-and-stuff-wise. Perhaps my memory distorts facts.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 I think it was Willets who said he enjoyed Karsay because whenever announcers mentioned him, it sounded like they were speaking Pig Latin.I tend to think of Christ the King HS as the Met-lovingest high school in town. I've never met a lot who were either Mets nuts or non-baseball enthusiasts. Never met a Yankee fan from there.Didn't they have a nortorious murderer from there? I think he actually played on their baseball team.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Are you thinking of ex-Nets-and-Johnnies-PF/amateur gunslinger Jayson Williams?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Carlos is on record saying he would require an "experienced" bench coach, which I take to mean an ex-MLB manager or bench coach so I dunno if Cora who hasn't held either job yet would be the best fit if that's so.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 18, 2019 Posted November 18, 2019 Clint Hurdle is just sitting out there jobless for what that's worth. Coming off a shitbox of a season with Pittsburgh (therefore, the joblessness), but he has a ton of managerial experience, most of it in the National League, has won the Manager of the Year Award, and has been a hitting coach also. He played all over the diamond, experience which could help tighten up defense at one position or another. He's a recovering alcoholic, has Met connections, and is part of the coterie of former Davey Johnson players to go into the managerial game. A whole bunch of managers and coaches came out of the 1983 Tides alone.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 The New York Post is reporting that the Mets' bench coach will be Hensley Meulens.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 First Reaction: Man, they've just love hiring smoaches with a high degree of Yankee connection.Second Reaction: Also, he's not a dude with National League managerial experience, or even any managerial experience, I think.Third Reaction: He has a strong record as a hitting coach, and could provide a potential complement or a conflict for Chili Davis.Fourth Reaction: He'll be the first Curaçaoan coach in Mets history, and thereby add a new flag to the 2020 Roster thread.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Actually, among Curaçao, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica, the Caribbean will be highly represented.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Now he calls himself "Hopparoo".
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Jeremy Hefner to be the pitching coach, so sez MLBN's Hey,Man and https://nypost.com/2019/11/26/mets-hiring-jeremy-hefner-as-pitching-coach/doubled down on by the PumaP.S. I always get a kick out of reports saying that they "confirmed" some other reporter's earlier report. It's like they're trying to say that they separately confirm that the previous reporting is accurate, except that it always comes off to me as them saying: 'Yes, I am hereby confirming that that other person did in fact report this'ESPN does this a lot, I believe in an attempt to make it seem like every bit of news is broken by them. If they do report it first then they claim it that way. But if someone else reports it first they lead with the declaration that they themselves are confirming the news while mentioning in passing and after the fact that said news was first reported by someone else via some outside organization. I mean, sure, someoneelse actually broke this story ... but the confirming, now that's the important part!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 So we go from the oldest pitching coach in the game to probably the youngest. Always liked Hefner, seemed to get the most out of what he had. Hope it translates.
