Everybody's in the sun except the first lady, who has a pall of shadow over her. She looks like she's phasing in from another dimension.

I must have misheard him, because I thought the president just thanked Hitler.

CNN is running AARP commercials, because ya know they're unbiased new coverage.

So we're back to hating the Nationals now right?

I don't get it. I really don't. Especially Suzuki. Maybe someone should remind him what xenophobia meant for Japanese Americans of previous generations.

was anybody a no show?

There was a number of them. CNN ran their story while the ceremony was in progress.

Nats fans have generally dismayed me. I blamed the worst of the Phillies fans who, during the Phillies run, traveled frequently to DC, and gave a lousy example to a not-yet-established fan base in how to be an asshole frontrunner.

Nats fans have really showed me a lot the last few months. The Nats themselves — both the organization and the players — are a group I still can't get behind.

Other no-shows included Anthony Rendon, Victor Robles and Joe Ross.

And yes, I can totally get behind a SIGN RENDON, ROBLES, AND ROSS NOW!!!! campaign.

And yeah, I know only one of them is technically a free agent, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do.

And yes, I'm all behind a SIGN DOOLITTLE NOW!!!! campaign.

No way. After the way our guys teed off on Doolittle last year, he helps us best by staying exactly where he is!

He's gonna win again, I hope we don't have to put off championships until

2025. I'm getting older by the day...

Even now we don't have uncorrupted elections. That's how we ended up with him - corruption. They've (the GOP/Putin/et al) gamed the EC (see Gore, Al - another popular vote winner who lost due to EC manipulation/Sandra Day O'Connor/SCOTUS) and won't ever let us get rid of it.

I have another way of looking at it. It's a good thing that the Mets haven't won a championship during the Trump presidency, because then they'd go to the White House and shake his hand, and everything the president touches turns to shit.

Christine Brennan with some thoughts in the very ad-filled USA Today:

[bLOCKQUOTE]When asked about his MAGA move, Suzuki texted USA TODAY Sports: “Just trying to have some fun. Everybody makes everything political. It was about our team winning the World Series.”

Of course, Suzuki was the one who made this political.

I've written about White House visits by sports teams since the 1980s, and I can't remember any quite like this. Most of them, you can barely remember who was president. It was just a team visiting the White House.[/bLOCKQUOTE]

So, it's "fun" to wear the campaign hat of a corrupt president and doing so isn't "political". Got it. Go fuck yourself.

As Trump's candidacy was percolating in 2015, Dillon Gee and DL'd Vic Black emerged as early adopters.

Seth's mom and Sean's Fox-y wife definitely on board. Zack's brother, too. Plus, you know, a certain beloved first baseman turned broadcaster.

Orange and blue the only colors worth looking for.

No WH trip any time soon:

Stroman

Nido (PR)

Diaz (ditto)

Smith

Better-than-average likelihood of "no:"

Thor

Conforto

Lowrie

Gsellman

Better-than-average chance of showing:

Nimmo

Cano

Ramos (just guessing, owing to personal experiences, that he's a big law-and-order, rules-are-rules guy)

Rosario

Familia

Matz (charity work in Honduras... but married to Christian rocker, big on bible study, and seems unlikely to turn down a Presidential invite from anyone)

Davis

Oswalt

deGrom (sadly)

Wilson (Orange County bro, straight through college)

There with MAGA hat on:

Lugo

Wheeler

Ideologically, probs more with us than agin' us.

Practically, he'd show. At least if this were to happen in the next 1-2 years.

Day/week before election day next year, do you think _Trump_ even shows? he'll probably be busy feeding access codes to Putin to make sure things are rigged properly.

I didn't pay any attention to this story. This President, I just revile. So were the Nats served the now traditional fast food slop? Holy vomit inducing crapola -- fast food fries purchased hours ago when everybody knows you gotta eat fast food fries within 10 minutes of buying them. I think Trump serves them Whoppers and Big Macs because he's a sociopath and likely looks at pretty much all of these athletes (except Tom Brady and some of the golfers) with extreme scorn and contempt -- and so he gets off on these athletes scrounging down this crappy food which there's a place for in our society, but certainly not at a once in a lifetime visit to the White House. Trump probably views these athletes wolfing down the fast food chow like starved dogs who haven't eaten in a day and a half.

That's my take.
