Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 (edited) We last saw these guys in the series that spanned May 31-June 2 with the DBacks taking 2 of 3 out in the desert and quite possibly past your bedtime.- Wheeler went 7 and picked up the win in Game #1 as 2-out/8th-inning RBI hits by JD Davis & Carlos Gomez erased a 3-4 deficit. Lugo & Gsellman closed it out.- Game #2 saw deGrom get a 4-0 lead, but the pen (Familia & Gsellman) coughed it up in the 8th and the Snakes won it in the 11th off Bashlor- Matz got drubbed in Game #3 while something named Merrill Kelly stifled us on 6 hits.DBacks are a weird bunch. An 87-win team last year, first they deal off their best player in Paul Goldschmidt. Then this year they were one game under .500 at the trade deadline when theydealt off their best pitcher in Zach Greinke and have been 8 games over .500 since. And I bet you'd have trouble naming their top WAR guys this season. Tops is Ketel Marte, the CF/2B/wherever player with the near 1000 OPS who Gary has been raving about for weeks now, so you might have guessed him. Second is the now departed Greinke. The remainder of their top eight goes like this: SS Nick Ahmed; 3B (or maybe drug kingpin) Eduardo Escobar; 1B Christian Walker (better OPS than Goldschmidt); C Carson Kelly; LF David Peralta (though IL'd right now); LHP Robbie Ray who was the guy supposed to be dealt at the deadline and the hurler we'll see in the final game.Arizona is 4th in NL at scoring runs (5.15/G), 6th best at preventing them (4.58)This series is merely the biggest one of the year as it's almost certainly the knock-out blow for whichever squad loses twice or thrice or ...We'll see:Monday 7:10 - deGrom vs Merrill Kelly [10-13, 4.69, 1.35] we failed to hit him last time and, with JdG on the mound again, why should this time be any different?Tuesday 7:10 - Wheeler vs Zac Gallen [acquired from Marlins at deadline, 2.25 ERA in 6 starts], and I'm assuming it's pronounced as Gallon because they list his nickname as 'Milkman'Wednesday 7:10 - Matz vs Robbie Ray [12-7, 4.03, 1.31]Thursday 1:10 - Stroman vs TBD Edited September 9, 2019 by Guest

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I will give Wilmer a standing O from my living room when he comes up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Man, you can fool Alonso, but it's really hard to get the same pitch by him twice.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I believe in cleanup hitters. Schmutz the upside of getting two guys on after Alonso's homer?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 What the bean is Wilmer doing wearing 41?

Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 PETE KABOOM -- AGAIN!!!! 47!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Wow, the Mets get baserunners after Alonso's homer.Again.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 Let's see you match that Wilmer!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 Edgy MD wrote:Wow, the Mets get baserunners after Alonso's homer.Again.Of course the four batters hitting in front of Pete -- in every inning except the 1st anyway -- are Nimmo, Rosario, deGrom, and McNeil, so there at least should be some baserunners on board for him.

Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 It's cool to see all the servicemen and servicewomen in their dress whites sitting together in right-centerfield.Nice hit by McNeil!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 What new and exciting ways will the bullpen find to lose this game? we can only wait and see!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 YGB, man. Loogie ain't been the problem. It's September ball, though. When you send up Panik! to hit, and the opposition counters with a lefty, you pull Joe for Haggerty or Frazier or Rajai or something.Additionally, after taking it in the ear from Philadelphia, I haven't really appreciated enough that this is a game against a rival for a post-season slot also.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I realize Canó is running that way because he's playing with an injured hammy, but there would be no shame if he yielded to Guillorme for ninth-inning defense.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 4th GiDP of the night for the home squad. It's like this team is part of a conspiracy to limit leads in those games where they're out-hitting the other side by a large margin (and ones where JdG is pitching).

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 Hey, deGrom has a winning record!Really cool of the 7 Line Army to come all dressed as naval officers this evening. I think they should do that every one of deGromio's starts.
