Brews untie it, and keep it that way.

The Cubs are just underway in Whale's Vagina, and ain't nobody scoring. Vaya con dios, Daddys.

But-- BUT-- the Bravos are helping, in their own way: up 3-1 in the 9th... but with two on and a coiled Maikel Franco PHing. Carry on, my Me-lan-con.

My god these Marlins are worthless. They lost 7 straight to the Brewers and Nats.

Of course I'm sure they'll start hitting the minute they arrive at Citi later this month.

The Pirates just scored a run this way: Newman singles; (this is one sequence) he steals but it's ball 4 so Contreras doesn't have to throw but he does and it goes into CF so Newman gets to 3d, then Almora (CF) throws it in but it misses everyone and Newman scores.

This game started out well anyway.

The Pirates went up 4-0 in the top of the 1st w/Lester on the ropes for Chicago ... and then by the 3rd in was 10-4 Cubbies

So Pittsburgh closes to 10-7 in the top of the 5th and then even had a chance for more but left the bases loaded.

Then, if the bottom of the 5th, the Cubs went out 1-2-3 ... or did they? The 3rd out, a bang-bang play at 1st, was over-turned.

Not a big deal most of the time ... except here the Cubs put up 7 straight runs after starting their run with the bases empty and three out (no HRs either).

17-7 Cubs, top of 6

iow, probably not a good night for WC contenders to plan on gaining ground on the Cubs.

The Nationals are getting their sorry asses kicked by the Braves again today. Charlie Culberson tried to bunt and got hit in the face by the pitch. He was carted off the field. The pitched was called a strike. The Braves manager was unhappy. (Mickey would never stand up for his players this way.)

I was watching that one during that inning. And while I can understand why Snickers Bar was mad, I'm not so sure he was correct.

The problem is that, if you're bunting, you don't have to make a forward move with the bat to have it called a strike, the simple

absence of a backward move can be construed as 'having offered at it'. Culberson's only move really was to put the bat in front of

his face hoping to deflect it, but the ball missed the bat completely.

Tough way to take 'Strike One' in an AB, but the HP ump shouldn't be altering the rules in order to express sympathy.

Jason Vargas gave up a grand slam to Christian Vazquez. Crimson Hose lead crimson dopes 5-1 in the 4th.

Even if we continue to win, sooner or later somebody is going to have to do us some favors.

-- Cubs won again today; 4 wins in a row, 8-6 in September

-- Nats win; only 6-8 in Sept (they went into a mini-tailspin following their 7-run/9th inning win vs us) but have now won four of their last seven

-- Brewers also won today; 11-3 in September

-- at least the Phils managed to lose today; 7-7 now this month

-- the DBacks are the only ones really playing their way out of contention; they came into our series on a roll but have now lost 6 of 7 (four to us then twice this weekend to Cincy)

The Phils will phade. They're phaking it with their pitching staff.

Also, their next 11 games are at Atlanta (3) then at Cleveland (3) then at Washington (5 in 4 days)

Following a week-plus like that, the fact that they end the season at home with 3 vs the Marlins is of little consolation.

If the Phils, Brews, D-Backs beat out the Mets, well, they deserve to lose.

Cubs and Nats are who they really have to target at this point.

That also means an extra win for Atlanta.

Admittedly, it's getting way ahead of ourselves, but it'd be ideal if the last 3 games against Atlanta meant nothing to the Braves (currently 4.5 behind LA for best league record/getting to face the WC team in the first round of the playoffs).

If that last Atlanta series means anything, it will have meant a lot of things went right.

But if we get there, I don't see Atlanta laying down. Assholes.

the Phillies loss today was huge, bringing them even with us in the loss column. we control our destiny with regard to one more team now. Cubs down 3-1 right now and it feels like a "must lose" for us!

And it's a victory for the St. Louisians! Cublicans fall a game out!

Time for everybody to become Pittsburgh fans. They've to stop Milwaukee's run.

Bobby Wahl needs to remember his fealty to the Mets — and switch up Josh Hater's vitamins or something.
