well that nothing IS nothing, beyond Law's imputing motive and meaning that is not evidenced by the statement itself.

I'm not tryna be your hero

'Cause that zero is too cold for me, brrr

I'm not tryin' to be your highness

'Cause that minus is too low to see, yeah

Oh wait, that's FROM... never mind...

Getting back to Stro', I did hear and read several times that Marcus was not exactly

the most popular guy on the team and even one guy (I think Dog on his High Heat

opening rant) that everyone to a man was glad to see him go. *paraphrasing

Comes here with a clean slate but it may be interesting to watch.

Of course, if sportswriters would actually name a source once in a while, we could hold people accountable (both the source and the writer) and push further for clarification.

If sources were named in saucy, controversial, etc. pieces the rats would stop singing.

=Centerfield post_id=17395 time=1564763848 user_id=65]...in sports, it seems its hard to get behind the scenes information without unnamed sources, since they are typically giving info about their employer. Or co-worker I guess.

If they are not willing to stand behind their comments, then their song isn't worth hearing.

I think unnamed sources should be used sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary. There's a time and a place for them. But in sports writing, it's become almost standard.

Agreed. But in sports, it seems its hard to get behind the scenes information without unnamed sources, since they are typically giving info about their employer. Or co-worker I guess.

That doesn't mean we should take into account that it's an anonymous statement when figuring out how much weight to give it.

Agreed. It would be hard to get behind the scenes information in news, too. A good reporter knows how to build sources and bring them on the record when necessary. (Or, a reporter hears about something from an unnamed source, then works hard to get someone to go on the record to talk about it.) It's become such common practice in sports that it will probably never change. The 24-hour news cycle and social media doesn't help.

But there's a serious lack of accountability.

Tracky was funny on this week's Shea Anything podcast. The other host on the podcast asked Tracky if he was surprised by the Mets getting Stroman, and he said something along the lines of, "Oh not at all. I knew that was in the works." Oh, really? Show us the tweets and posts where you spoke about that deal in advance. Because the only thing we heard from him -- and all the others -- was that the Mets were going to be big sellers.

Yeah, anonymous sources cause the reader to rely on the integrity of the reporter. And Tracky has proven over and over that he has none. He's proven to be a troll. Posting inciteful messages then following with "What? I'm just reporting." When in truth, nothing he does even resembles reporting.
