But as Ralph used to point out when Sammy Sosa broke one of his HRs/month records*: 'Yeah but he did it with a 162-game schedule'.

* As per Gary talking about Josh Bell breaking Ralph's Pitt record for TBs in a month

Here's an SNY post-game blurb:

I turned it off when Mickey came out and Syndergaard said, "Are you fucking kidding me?" Because there's nothing smarter than giving this bullpen EXTRA outs to get.

Mickey's got to go. I don't care if he's replaced by Riggleman or Dusty Baker or the ghost of Salty Parker or a toaster. He's gotta go. I imagine Noah would like to pull his scraggly beard out hair by hair right about now.

You just knew that was going to blow up in Callaway's face. It's not that Lugo is theoretically a worse bet to get the third out, or that his failure to do so isn't mostly on him. But the bullpen is performing at a level where you don't bring them in when you don't need to, and there was clearly no need.

Gsellman's performance was, unfortunately, predictable. We know from last year that he should be fine if you put him on a 70-inning pace but will cave in if you put him on a 100-inning pace. And he has 35 innings under his belt the first week of June. Mickey needed to learn from last year, but didn't.

There's a finite number of players on the roster. When you place such a high value on limiting your use of top pitchers, you end up over-using second tier pitchers. It's a recipe for self-sabotage.

The Syndergaard change made no sense to us sitting in the stands either, didn't realize there was a controversy about it but if there is he's gotta go. This is twice in a week he's screwed over starters against their wishes while doing something strategically unsound.

Beyond that the team just doesn't look good. Defensively weak, very poor execution (2 on non out in the first and second innings and zip). Tightness up the wazoo, probably because there's a palpable sense that the end of Callaway and the Mets season, is near.

Jay Bruce btw had like 16 RBIs last night for the Phils
