Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Almost four full seasons from his last appearance with the Mets, Jankk Mejia has joined the Red Sox, in what is probably a good investment. My main memory is that, when he became the closer, some reporter asked him if he had a signature way to pimp out his saves. He replied along the lines of "Nah, but I'll think of something."Sure enough within two or three games, he was doing that stomp thing. I hadn't known that trademark save celebrations had become a necessity.Notable that Sandy Alderson kept him on the roster for 3+ seasons while he was banned, and just as he's ready to make a run back at the big leagues, Brodie drops him.See ya, Jenrry.https://cdn.newsday.com/polopoly_fs/1.19645646.1530936127!/httpImage/image.jpeg_gen/derivatives/landscape_768/image.jpeg>
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Chris Flexen. Eric Hanhold. Jacob Rhame. All these guys are on the 40 while we cut Gavin Cecchini and Jennry Mejia. Maybe I'm biased against Brodie Van FancyTalk, but I feel like he's been a bit reckless. Cecchini is a former first rounder.

Guest 41Forever Guests Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 I remember being so disappointed after he was using the stuff because he seemed to finally find a way to be successful.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Lifetime bans lasting less than four years kind of takes the bite out of lifetime bans.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Longer than George Steinbrenner's lifetime ban, though.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Inexplicably made the major league roster as a reliever to start the 2010 season, was ineffective and quickly injured. I recall blaming Jerry Manuel for this but I'm fuzzy on the details as to why.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 For awhile there the Omar-Bernazard Axis was promoting the idea that some guys were so certain to be surefire MLB stars that it barely mattered what level they played at and when.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Everyone talked about his natural movement, but whenever I saw him pitch I couldn't pick up on any of it. But I guess I couldn't pick up on Mariano's movement either, so what the hell do I know. I thought it was a good move to bring him into the pen. I thought he could be a mainstay for years, but I didn't think he would remain "the closer".They say relief pitchers have to have short memories. I guess in that sense Mejia has the right mindset. But if he's so forgetful he tries the same steroid three times, maybe take notes or something. It will be interesting to see if he can still be a productive big league pitcher. How much of that was talent and how much was the juice? I guess we'll find out.
