HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Trackie with a brief blurb saying the Mets and Tribe have talked about a swap for Yan Gomes. .762 OPS and 16 dongs for Cleveland last year.No details on what would go back to the Indians.https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-indians-talk-yan-gomes-trade/301007552?fbclid=IwAR0HE4KAdtaGy9AhVW-GTkqK6ugY3INMvK-nstzhn4sZMxpcaX-mecE79LEThoughts?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 For some reason I know he's from Brazil. I think that would be a Mets first
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I think that sometimes, when a relatively new guy in management makes inquiries about the players from his past organization, he can be looking through rose-colored glasses, and lead the organization to overstate his value. That said, Red Murff came over from Houston and convinced to organization to gobble up Jerry Grote, and all they paid for him was Tom Parsons + cash.

Could the Mets bring in a Brandon Nimmo and make a bigger deal for a Cleveland starting pitcher, then move Noah Syndergaard?Cleveland has made Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, and Trevor Bauer available. I'm not sure what Martino is saying here. That if the Mets include Nimmo they can possibly get Gomes and a starting pitcher? Or a starting pitcher instead of Gomes?
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Nimmo + Plawecki + Bruce at first or on the bench > Bruce + Gomes+ Smith at first or on the bench. Syndergaard is not Kluber, but he also might not be far below him moving forward. And Thor can at least match Carrasco. It would seem like a lot of maneuvering to take on substantial payroll while breaking even (if that) on the field. But getting back to a simple deal for Gomes: His performance has been fickle, but it has been at least good often enough to justify a look.

That makes some sort of sense, but then who is the leadoff hitter? On edit:McNeil-2bConforto-lfSpringer-rfBruce-1bFrazier-3bGomes-cLagares-cfpitcherRosario-sseventually. . .McNeil-2bSpringer-cfConforto-rfCespedes-lfBruce-1bFrazier-3bGomes-cpitcherRosario-ss
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I wanted to see what this guy looks like, and as a side-effect of that, I'm posting this image here.Carry on.
Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Maybe the only reason why they tendered d'Arnaud is because Cleveland wants him? I certainly hope so because I want nothing to do with Travis d'Arnaud anymore.https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-are-optimistic-they-can-strike-trade-with-indians-for-c-yan-gomes/301311540
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I just made a WATP with that same thought in mind
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Gomes is good so this isn't good.

Anyway...Gomes career OPS: .719Travis career OPS: .712Mex just trashed BVW for tendering Travis and advocates trading Nimmo for Gomes. And I get it. Defense matters, but come on. Let’s sign Ramos. Then trade Travis to Seattle for Diaz.

I'm worried that they're all overvalued, which is why I can live with bringing d'Arnaud back. We don't really have the prospects to trade at this point, either. Moving on.
