yeah, that's what it'll be. It's just a press debriefing. Lots of change going on, tell the media the plan and they'll mostly parrot that all offseason.

starting the GM search immediately, though there are guys+ on playoff teams that we have to wait to talk to. etc.
We like Callaway and expect him back but obviously need to be on the same page with new GM.
Happy with the way the team has played in the second half. Full commitment to competing in 2019 and how we will do that is part of the interview, obviously.

No one will ask him why the Mets can't afford to fund a big market payroll.

I know Horowitz was a legend and popular with players as the buffer with the media. But I'm curious how the new person, hopefully well-versed in the changing media landscape, will work with the Wilpons. If Jeff is going to be the face of ownership and the subject of many critical stories, there's value in trotting him out more often -- at least more than an end-of-season wrap-up. He was uncomfortable in the press conference with Wright, but got better once he stopped reading from the index cards. (There are much better ways to do that than reading from index cards.)

As for this one, Ceets is probably right. Disappointing season, committed to winning, improved second half, new GM search progress, praise for Wright.

Also, why is Jeffy talking on Sunday? That's David Wright's last day as an active player. Unless Jeffy has to immediately get to the Hamptons there is no reason why he can't mumble his way through a press conference on Monday (which would also give the Mets another day of coverage).

Much has been written here about Jeff. I don't think anyone has accused him of being too bright.

While Wilpon wants to keep the bulk of his current staff intact, he will leave the fates of assistant GM John Ricco, special assistants J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya, manager Mickey Callaway and his coaches least partially in the hands of the new GM. "They're not here no matter what," Wilpon said of that group. "They're part of the failure that we had this year, the same as I am and the rest of the front office. It's only fair to give somebody coming in an open book to bring in who they want. Would I like them to stay? Yes, from an ownership standpoint, I'd like them to stay. I'd like Mickey to stay. That's from ownership, though. We're going to rely on a new GM to give us that direction and guidance.

Wilpon declined to offer specifics on the Mets' budget or offseason plan, putting both under the stewardship of the incoming GM.
