I'm really hoping the Mets stand pat from here on in, I don't want to see them trade Wheeler or Matz. I think we have the first four guys in what could be a dominant rotation.

How do you feel about possibly dealing Flores? Bautista and Mesoraco?

My wife would/will be devastated if Flores gets dealt, she's a sucker for a crying adult man. I think they should hold him, he's been one of their best hitters for the last several weeks and he's a product of our own minor league system.

As for Mesoraco and Joey Bats, they are hired guns, I don't see them as being irreplaceable.

Yeah, this. My wife would be bereft if they traded Wilmer. She wouldn't miss the others.

In 2015, the Mets got Eric O'Flaherty for minor leaguer Dawrin Frias, and did so after the trade deadline, so I imagine they might similarly be exploring opportunities to move Jerry Blevins.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bautista goes to the Yankees. Despite some housecleaning, the Yankees still have some AAA arms that aren't high-end prospects but could help our bullpen right away. The Red Sox do as well, especially from the left side, and Mesoraco would be an upgrade at catcher. So that's my wish list.

Not sure what else can/ought to be done, unless somebody makes an offer for Wheeler that can't be refused.

Maybe the Yankees get Bautista, declare themselves finished, and five minutes later, the Red Sox get Harper.

Wahl got the save in a 10-8 Vegas slugfest last night. Struck out the side in the ninth around a single.

I imagine he'll be a Met within the week.

The Nationals are super talented and just in a rut. Clearly they should keep Harper and make a run at this.

In fact, they should be unloading all of their best prospects to bolster their lineup with veteran bats.

Like Jose Bautista.

Beat writers seem to think the Mets are going to stand pat. I'm fine with that. Looking on Twitter and I'd say 2/3 of the fans are mad that we're not selling high on Wheeler, or low on Bautista, to restock the system. I'm kind of surprised by that.

Fans generally love the 'trade-em-all-for-prospects' route.
At least they do in theory, until that is the prospect(s) turns out to be not much then they can revert to saying 'I didn't mean THOSE prospects' and mock the guys who made the deal until the end of time.

Fans on twitter will never be happy. I mean, there's almost no value in not selling Bautista or Mesoraco but there's also almost no value in just dumping them for some random garbage scrub that no one wants either. Plus you try to get them through waivers/trade them in August anyway.

Standing pat may be the problem. They're not tearing down. But then they probably won't spend meaningfully to plug up the holes. They'll end up treading water and hoping for the next Michael Cuddyer -- some old geezer by baseball standards who was an all star six years ago, to wildly exceed expectations.

Maybe so. But I think the deadline always get framed in this "fire sale or stand pat" label when the truth is probably that the Mets would trade Wheely if they got something real good for him. What contender wouldn't want a guy pitching as well as Wheely is right now? They;re the ones standing pat. Someone's gonna end up regretting they didn't offer enough.

Jeff: "Wait, is Cuddyer still available? Someone call his agent."

From the Mets Twitter Feed:

"We have claimed INF Jack Reinheimer off waivers from the D-backs and optioned him to Las Vegas. To make room on the 40-man roster for Reinheimer, Yoenis Céspedes has been transferred to the 60-Day DL. #Mets"

That'll do it.

That rein isn't going to heim itself.

It's about time they used the 60 for Céspedes. They released Marcos Molina earlier in the year rather than put him on the 60, even though he had already been gone for 58 days, and then they put den Dekker through waivers rather than 60-ing Yoenis.

Good news, though, is that an hour ago, dD cleared waivers and will report to Vegas with Reinheimer.

I believe they only had 39 on the roster, so they couldn't 60day Yoenis for den Dekker.

Or considering how burned up the pen was this evening, maybe tomorrow.

You'll know him as No. 72 on your scorecard.
