Sherman is kicking the Mets ass right now on Twitter. I don't agree w/ the Cespedes angle, but this trade does seem questionable from a few angles. I hope this Victor Vector guy is the savior and we do get him cause it does seem the $1M is def the biggest return in the trade. Rosenthal adds that the A's could end up flipping Familia in 10 days if nothing comes of their run. If that happened and their return was better...

They could have waited until 3 pm on the 31st to pull the trigger on this one. In the meantime, they have set the bar low for two-month rentals -- including several that the Mets still need to trade.

The reliever that they got is capable of stepping in to the Mets' pen right now, which I suppose makes this an improvement from the deadline deals last year. But like Sherman said, the A's could have called him up but didn't.

True, but this way they saved 10 additional days of his salary.

Hi, I'm Justine Ward, and I'm bringing your the story from the broadcast
level of the Mets here at Yankee Stadium III. Trying to get some info on
the recently acquired Bobby Wahl, I turned to Mets radio broadcaster
Howie Rose who said that Both "Bobby Wahl" and "Will (not William) Toffey"
sound like hockey names. While I tend to agree, I wasn't sure that was
the sort of hard-hitting inside info that would illuminate this mysterious
transaction.

So I turned to Nashville Sounds media director Chad Seely. Chad's probably
about pitching good stories, but just last night, he was getting absolutely
slobbery about the newest Met.

If the New York Mets are just going to trade their most valuable major league assets for salary relief, rather than to try to improve the club, then it's time for MLB to step in and force the Wilpons to sell the team, just as the league did with Frank McCourt and the Dodgers. Trading Jeurys Familia for two fringe-at-best prospects is not how any team, regardless of payroll level, should operate in this environment. For a franchise that operates in the largest market in the league to do this -- and do so ten days before the trade deadline rather than waiting for someone to offer a legitimate return -- is embarrassing for the Mets and for Major League Baseball as a whole.

Wahl will get at least one save for us this season. Possibly tomorrow night in the Bronx.

My first instinct was to write pretty much the same post Keirh Law wrote. But I didn't 'cause I figure youse are tired of hearing it from me. Or just tired of me, period. But I've been on to eff Wilpon's scam for about 20 years now.

It's simple. They said they would eat salary to get better prospects. They lied. They got crap back for a useful player, rental or no. And they're hiding from the media.

In other words, Typical Mets.

Of course.
Right handed hitters seem to be an anathema to some of the people who acquire players in this organization.

Old story here, there and everywhere. Instead MLB loaned the Mets money
and enabled them to carry on as usual. All these years later it's still going on
and if they're looking to sell another 10% one has to ask why, even though
everyone knows the answer. They're still cash poor.

Lol, you just can't help it can you?
No one wants or needs to be sold on something by the front office.
They're horrific enough as is, spin doctoring would make it worse.

Sell the deal, explain the deal -- whatever term you want -- tell people why they made the deal. The absence of someone there to talk about it is a bad thing.

But you instinctively said sell, not explain! :^)

I'm Justine Ward back at Citi Field, and while no Mets officials have stepped in front of the cameras,
I have a statement from a member of their management team, who asked me to convey it to any
and all in listening range. And his statement was "Quote—Fuck Keith Law—Unquote."

That's coming from a Mets source who chose to remain anonymous, not me, Mom. My source went
on rather excitedly to say, "Ask Keith Law about A.J. Pollock! Ask Keith Law about Jake Arrieta!
Good men LOST THEIR JOBS because they believed what Keith Law — what Keith Fucking Law —
had to say about those guys. Let me tell you something. Keith Fucking Law doesn't know
everything."

My source was burning my ears off, and that's not the worst of it all. He sort of backed me into
the corner, poked his finger at me and got a little spittle on my dress, and here's where it got weird.
"You remember who Keith Law said was the best prospect in baseball at the start of 2017, Justine?
DO YOU REMEMBER?! April 2017! A year and a half ago! He said AMED FUCKING ROSARIO,
THAT'S WHO! Keith Law!! Keith Law can suck my big ... ."

He kind of faded off mumbling from there and then returned to the team's main conference room
here at Citi Field where a lot of execs have been gathered and there's been more than a few raised
voices. I saw some catering going in about 30 minutes ago. Kabul Kabab. From over on Main
near Franklin. We'll be sticking around for a while and let you know if we hear anything else.

It's frustrating that the Mets should trade a major player, and secretly plan surgery on another major player, without any public accountability. The only prior notice was that both players were suddenly "not available". Do they not realize that this is a corporation that has millions of people watching every move? It wouldn't kill them to share a little. They just look more and more foolish.

I didn't say they didn't exist, but like LH hitting catchers there's just considerably fewer of em.

I see quotes from Ricco and Omar. Who is Sherman accusing of hiding from the media?

https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-finalize-familia-trade-to-as-for-two-prospects-international-slot-money/286676828

They're press releases. Nobody has actually stood in front of reporters, partly because they'll also have to answer questions about Cespedes.

Ah. Bad form. They should have someone there to take questions. Familia was an important player and they should have someone there to sell the deal. And, by this point, if they don't have points on Cespedes to answer questions, then they are a mess.

What are your thoughts on the trade itself? Especially in light of Ricco’s comments the day before that they would eat salary in exchange for a better return?

I'm disappointed. Familia was our biggest trade chip. I was hoping for more. That's why someone from the team needs to tell us why this was done.

If it was just for salary relief, then I'm doubly disappointed.

I want to hear how this trade makes us stronger in the future. And if that means saving money, then I want to hear how that money will be reinvested. OE: Changed the part about selling a part of the team. Thanks for the correct info.

I want to hear someone say they are devastated that they are in the position of having to trade top players because of a lost season. I want someone to tell me they are beyond frustrated that players on this team seem to get injured at an alarming rate and that the team will be taking a close look at training and preparation to determine if there is anything internally that is contributing to that rate.

I want someone to tell me that that process has started to get a top GM in here, and that he or she will have autonomy to make baseball decisions and support from the ownership.

I want someone to tell fans that they know the fans are frustrated and angry, and that the team's leaders are, too. Then I wanted to see evidence that they are and positive changes are being made.

And right now, I don't even know who they'd send out there to tell us those things. They are a mess.
