Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Jaime Garcia vs Thorexpect Flores to get a start against the lefty. Jaime is a league average pitcher off to a bad start. walks are up. Mets should probably look to be patient. (hey, Amed..)Time to rattle off some wins.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Hopefully there will be a nice tribute video for Granderson.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Mets have never lost a regular-season home game to the Blue Jays, though I did seem them drop a pre-second season exhibition to the visiting Torontonians in August of 1981.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 That was weird. The strike over, with the teams given a few days to work out, all this momentum and speculation was building toward a couple of Yankee-Met scrimmages before the season re-opened. But Steinbrenner, always seeing a matchup with the lowly crosstown rivals as a lose-lose prospect, nixed this enterprise, leaving the Mets to scramble to secure the Blue Jays as a last-minute opponent, while the Yankees sufficed with a few scrimmages against their A-level team.Of course, that A-level team (which I guess might have included a young Greg Gagne) was in mid-season form and hustling their butts off against a Yankee squad just looking to get loose, and they played the big leaguers embarrassingly close both games.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 It was the "and home" portion of the "home and home" series with the Jays that caused havoc on the eve of the second half of '81, as Randy Jones and Tom Hausman each came up lame after pitching on the slick Exhibition Stadium mound. Jones's injury was more attributable to the uncovered conditions.I was also at Shea for the Saturday afternoon preseason game the Mets and Jays played in 1991, featuring a warm ovation for the visiting Mookie Wilson. I have to believe that the universe of not paid to be there people who witnessed the Jays alight at Shea in 1981, 1991, 1997, 1999 and 2001 is me and can't be too many others.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Dr. Ron Taylor, the former Mets pitcher who is now the Blue Jays' team physician, took the X-rays. Taylor said there was a severe sprain and that Jones would be out one to two weeks and then take it one day at a time. Jones, however, rejoined the club in time for the flight to Chicago.Guessing not too many other team physicians would be namechecked by the New York Times unless that team physician was the ace reliever on the local/opposing team's most recent world champion. Either way, nice of Taylor to look after one of his Met successors.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I saw Rey Ordonez homer against the Jays at Shea. In my mind, the HR was against Roger Clemens, but I looked it up and Clemens came out the inning before. I watched Rey's HR from that primitive by today's standards, right field corner field level food court where a frozen Digiorno mini pizza pie was about as good as it got.

Loved that there was still ill will for Clemens eleven years after the '86 World Series with not an MFY pinstripe in sight.

If you're talking about just one game per series, I missed this club by just the 1981 series. So if you exclude exhibition games, then I'm in. Is that so, that the Jays haven't visited the Mets inNYC since 2001?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 They came to New York in 2015.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I made one game per series at Shea. I missed the 2015 Pan North American games at Citi. I thought about going to keep the streak going (and to greet Jose) but it didn't work out.I will be there to say hi to Grandy Tuesday night.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 All offdays suck. But the worst offdays are bitter afternoon losses, followed by an offday, followed by a night game. I'm not sure the math, but I feel like 486 hours will have passed between Met games.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 No, it's not good news. Hopefully it's just an abundance of caution, but we'll see. It's entirely possible that we won't see him again in a month or more. And that would suck.
