Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I'm kind of a sucker for the idea of continuing the weird Mets tradition of getting coverboy Asian pitchers after their initial phenom period, but while they are still nonetheless grinding it out and surprisingly continuing to be a winning asset: Hideo Nomo, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Chan-Ho Park ... . Darvish is wine that is not yet past it's time.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Going back to Eddy’s idea, if we only have one bullet then I’d go for JD Martinez. Our biggest need is offense. Until Conforto is healthy there is no logjam. While he’s out see if our bigger need is CF or 1B. Then have him fake it there. Besides. I don’t see Ces staying healthy for 162. Go get me Martinez.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Author Posted December 25, 2017 I'd go Cain over Martinez, Martinez's best position is DH and he isn't even "old" yet. I would be pretty scared to see him age defensively on a National League team - particularly OUR team!
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Sell the team to someone who isn't strapped for cash.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Anna's desperate, so Fred can get her pretty cheap. That's the primary consideration these days.

My leaning toward Martinez is that the Mets have been linked to Bruce. I’m not high on Bruce at all. Even having seen the “good” side. Also not good defensively. So if we’re going to give it up on the glove side, let’s at least get the elite hitter.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Mets are shopping in the bargain bin this winter. Watch them re-sign Reyes for second, pick up an outfielder off the scrap heap and call it a winter.I'd love to see Fred and Jeff prove me wrong, but I got a bad feeling.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Lance Lynn had TJS in the fall of 2015, returned this past season with his stuff nowhere near 100%, and managed a better ERA (and ERA+) than either Darvish or Arrieta. My gut tells me he's more fully recovered this coming season, and provides at least equal value to the top two for half the price. My concern with Cain is that defensive value has a way of declining faster than offensive value, and he will require at least a four-year commitment. There are too many second basemen better than Frazier that can be had.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2017 Author Posted December 25, 2017 I was thinking Frazier for 3B not 2BInteresting that there is almost no consensus in the poll as to what the top need is or who fills it
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Might be because we have multiple needs.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 I want Bruce back. He's the only guy on this list that's shown he can be a productive Met.Plus, Anna Benson, I can find videos of her in a pinch, or, you know, videos of 50 chicks who will do all the things you'd assume she'd do if you plied her full enough of Boone's wine.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I'm at least a little uncomfortable with the jones for Cain. He's a good player, but I think it's fair to say that Nimmo is more likely than not to outperform him over the next three years. If you're going to get an outfielder, either aim higher for somebody who distinctly looks to outclass Nimmo or lower for one who complements him. Don't get somebody who will bury Nimmo without outplaying him.I can be sold on three years for Gomez. I can be sold on one year for Jarrod Dyson or Rajai Davis or somebody.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 pass on Gomez, he hasn't been good in 2 or 3 years
