Julio Zayas is experiencing a mini-hot streak at the plate, a stretch that has him also hitting the long ball. Zayas hit his second home run in three games, a two-run, walk-off drive in the bottom of the ninth inning, to power Single-A St. Lucie to a 2-0 victory over Daytona on Friday. The 20-year-old first baseman/catcher has hit safely in all four of his games this month, and is 8-for-17 in that stretch. The run has raised his season slash line to .256/.356/.381 (.744 OPS) in 343 plate appearances. He now has eight home runs on the season. He's in his fourth pro season since signing with the Mets out of the Dominican Republic in 2023, but his first for a full-season affiliate. He spent his first season in the DSL and then the next two in the FCL, before graduating to St. Lucie this year. He's looking strong heading into the final month of the season. Elsewhere in the organization: Syracuse held off Columbus 6-5. The Mets broke a tie in the sixth when D’Andre Smith swiped third on the front end of a double steal and continued home as the catcher’s throw sailed into center field. Binghamton blanked Hartford 1-0 one night after scoring 23 runs. Kevin Parada drove in the run with a double in the bottom of the eighth. Noah Hall struck out 10 over six innings. Brooklyn’s game at Wilmington was postponed because of rain. The teams will make it up Saturday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET. DSL Mets Blue fell 8-6 to DSL Blue Jays Red. Mauricio Nunez allowed no hits and an unearned run in 2 1/3 innings of relief. DSL Mets Orange downed the DSL Rangers 3-2. Jodarlin Perez struck out four in three scoreless innings of relief. New York Mets Transactions New York Mets sent RHP Bryce Conley outright to Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Syracuse Scampers Past Columbus The Mets pushed across the eventual winning run without a hit. Smith walked and stole second, and then Shawn Ross walked. With Jose Ramos at the plate, the two pulled off a double steal. The throw went to second to get the back runner. Ross, the ball and the second baseman arrived at about the same time, and the throw ended up in center field. Smith scored from third to put the Mets up 6-5. Ramos gave the Mets a 5-3 lead in the fourth inning with a bases-clearing double. The Clippers tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth. Christopher Morel hit his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second that put Syracuse in front 2-1. Morel played second base for the second time with the Mets as he keeps his utility skills sharp. Jonathan Santucci scuffled in his second Triple-A start. The left-hander was charged with four runs (three earned) on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out six. Dan Hammer earned the win despite giving up a run in 1 2/3 innings and allowing the runner he inherited from Santucci to score. Dylan Ross earned the save with a scoreless ninth. Fortunately for them, Hall was dominant on the hill. He allowed two hits and walked three as he kept the Yard Goats off the board. The breakthrough happened quickly. John Bay led off the Rumble Ponies' eighth with a single and then scored when the next batter, Parada, doubled to the gap in right-center field. Three Binghamton relievers combined to finish the shutout. Garrett Stratton pitched the seventh, Carlos Guzman handled the eighth, and Saul Garcia worked the ninth. Guzman earned the win and Garcia got the save. Rumble Ponies pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts in all while allowing just four hits. All the offense made Gary Gill Hill’s job easy. The last four relievers combined for eight strikeouts among the 12 outs they registered. Brooklyn grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first. Sammy Stafura, the prospect obtained from the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Luke Weaver, led off with a single and later scored on a single by Trey Snyder. Yonatan Henriquez singled home Smith for a 2-0 lead. Wilmington answered in the second with a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. The term “balanced scoring” is generally reserved for basketball, but it applied to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on a historic Thursday night. All nine batters had at least one hit (seven had at least two) and one run scored in a 23-3 beatdown of the Hartford Yard Goats. Eight of the nine drove in at least one run. Seven drew at least one walk. The team scored in seven of their eight innings at bat en route to shattering the single-game record for the current Binghamton franchise, which began play in 1992. Of course, there were some “leading scorers”: Mitch Voit: 5-for-6, five runs scored, two RBIs. He is still hotter than the sun. The five hits tied a franchise record. All the offense made Gary Gill Hill’s job easy. Binghamton’s starter got through five scoreless innings in his first appearance since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the Freddy Peralta trade. One of the downsides of a team trading most of its best relievers at the deadline is that the replacements are either pushes or downgrades, rarely upgrades. That’s where the New York Mets stand with their bullpen after the conclusion of the 2026 trade season. The outlook beyond closer Devin Williams for the final two months is grim. Over a 72-hour span that ended Monday afternoon, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns shipped out A.J. Minter, Huascar Brazoban, Brooks Raley and Luke Weaver in separate trades. The pitchers who came back in those deals are not major league-ready, save for possibly 27-year-old Zach Franklin, who was part of the return for Brazoban from the Chicago White Sox. So, that leaves holdovers on the 40-man roster and healthy arms at Triple-A Syracuse to fill the gaps for the remainder of the season. Let's figure out how the Mets will use their collection of pitchers to get from now to the conclusion of the campaign. The Rehabbers Dedniel Nunez, Austin Warren Nunez and Warren will be the most solid options if they come back strong from Tommy John surgery and a forearm strain, respectively. Both have been rehabbing in the minors the past few weeks. Nunez was becoming a trusted piece when his elbow blew out a second time last year. Warren flung enough good sweepers this year to earn a semi-permanent role, although his 4.63 ERA and 4.64 FIP don’t scream that he needs to stay up. Status: Nunez has been activated and looked good in his first taste of action on 8/5. Every Day They’re Shuttling Bryce Conley, Xzavion Curry, Daniel Duarte, Dan Hammer, Chayce McDermott, Tobias Myers, Jonathan Pintaro, Matt Seelinger, Robert Stock We're assuming that Kodai Senga and Stock replaces him in long relief for these purposes, but truthfully, those two are interchangeable in those roles. Stock can be moved off the 40-man at little cost, which is how the shuttle works. Conley and Duarte will begin the late-season dance on the active roster. Conley, 31, will make his MLB debut when he gets into a game. Duarte, 29, has pitched in eight games for New York over three stints. The results have been there: a 1.42 ERA (2.94 FIP) in 12⅔ innings and a 26.7 percent strikeout rate. Curry, Hammer, Myers, Pintaro and Seelinger have been up and down . . . and up . . . and down. Curry got a “Thanks for eating innings” demotion to Syracuse last weekend after throwing five solid innings Friday. Seelinger joined the "Met for a Day" club after being acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers and then allowing seven runs. Hammer received the same “honor” after his call-up before the All-Star break, but he didn’t get into a game. Myers and Pintaro can throw multiple innings, but neither one excites. McDermott figures to get a look after being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a minor-league trade Monday for catcher Ben Rortvedt. One thing is for certain: The car services won’t be hurting for business as the Mets’ organization keeps doing its thing. Status: McDermott and Curry have been selected to the active roster, joining Duarte in New York. The Rotation Candidate Jonah Tong With Peralta and Holmes gone, the starting staff needs attention, too, and Tong appears ready to take one of those spots. He was sharper in his past three Triple-A starts (three earned runs allowed in 14⅔ innings) after struggling for about the first month after his June demotion. His fastball velocity reached into the high-90s his last time out. Stearns can run him, Zac Thornton, Christian Scott and Nolan McLean out to the mound as part of a young core in a five- or six-man rotation that would also include Sean Manaea and Senga. Status: Tong continues to pitch in Triple-A for the time being. Waiting For The Call Zach Franklin, Ofreidy Gomez, Joe Jacques, Ryan Lambert, Nate Lavender, Dylan Ross, Ben Simon, Matt Turner, Jefry Yan Ross technically got the call last September for the final weekend of the season, but he didn’t get into a game in that fateful series in Miami. This year, his ERA at Syracuse is 7.96. Franklin may get his first call-up to audition for his new club. Lavender, Turner and Yan are candidates to fill the left-handed relief role opened by the trades of Minter and Raley. Yan has the best stats (2.40 ERA in 15 innings) of the group. Gomez, Jacques and Lambert have all been ineffective. Pitchers who come off the minor league IL, random waiver claims, and minor league trades will expand this list as the Mets play out the string. If you thought the bullpen churn the first four months was annoying, wait until Stearns and his lieutenants try to juggle five or six spots with journeymen and suspects through the end of September. Status: Yan made his electric MLB debut this week, with Lavender joining him on the active roster.

If you thought the bullpen churn the first four months was annoying, wait until Stearns and his lieutenants try to juggle five or six spots with journeymen and suspects through the end of September. Status: Yan made his electric MLB debut this week, with Lavender joining him on the active roster. View full article

The roster reconstructions of the past two weeks concluded with the passing of MLB's trade deadline. Now, the New York Mets' full-season minor-league affiliates can go back to worrying just about development and not also about who's moving where. Eleven prospects were acquired in the six trades New York made in the 72 hours prior to the deadline. The first two, Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani, joined the organization last week. The rest were activated Tuesday. That meant a lot of introductions, and a lot of debuts. A quick summary of how the newcomers fared: Syracuse: Right-hander Zach Franklin (acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the Huascar Brazoban trade) allowed two runs and three hits over 1 2/3 innings in the Mets' 15-7 loss to Columbus. Binghamton: Jefferson Rojas (acquired from the Chicago Cubs for Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor) did not play in the Rumble Ponies' 6-3 victory over Hartford. Emilien Pitre (acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the Freddy Peralta trade) went 2-for-4. Right-handers Gabe Davis (Brazoban) and Gary Gill Hil (Peralta) did not pitch. Brooklyn: Aidan Smith (Peralta) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in the Cyclones' 7-1 win over Wilmington. John Spikerman (acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies in the Brooks Raley trade) was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sammy Stafura (acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for Luke Weaver) did not play. Right-hander Luke Gabrysh (Raley) did not pitch. St. Lucie has Agbayani on its roster and was untouched by the Sunday-Monday flurry. The Mets were rained out Tuesday against Daytona. The game will be made up Saturday as part of a doubleheader. DSL Mets Blue pulled away late to beat the DSL Tigers 13-6. Royner Bravo had four hits, an RBI and two runs scored. DSL Orange blew out the DSL Twins 14-6 in eight innings. Wandy Asigen reached base four times, drove in a run and scored three runs. New York Mets Transactions New York Mets recalled RHP Xzavion Curry from Syracuse Mets. New York Mets designated RHP Bryce Conley for assignment. New York Mets activated RHP Dedniel Núñez from the 60-day injured list. New York Mets activated RHP Chayce McDermott. New York Mets sent DH MJ Melendez outright to Syracuse Mets. New York Mets sent RHP Kevin Herget outright to Syracuse Mets. New York Mets recalled LHP Jefry Yan from Syracuse Mets. New York Mets selected the contract of OF Cristian Pache from Syracuse Mets. Now, he waits to find out who will trade for him. The Mets will be off in Cleveland on Monday, so there’ll be no formal hugwatch. Three of the New York Mets’ four full-season minor league affiliates played Sunday, and for each one, an intriguing story emerged. For Syracuse, it was Christopher Morel hitting three home runs, including a go-ahead, three-run moonshot in the sixth inning that powered the Mets to a series-ending 9-7 victory at Rochester. For Binghamton, it was the latest episode of the Mitch Voit Experience. The infield prospect homered, doubled twice, singled and drove in five runs to cap a huge first week at Double-A as the Rumble Ponies stomped Reading 9-3. For Brooklyn, it was Clay Holmes making his final rehab start before Monday’s MLB trade deadline. It was almost surely Holmes’ last appearance for the Mets’ organization, at least this year. The Cyclones held off Winston-Salem 6-5. St. Lucie didn’t get in on the fun. Its game against Dunedin was canceled because of inclement weather. Both DSL Mets squads, Blue and Orange, were off. Further intrigue came from New York on Sunday and will again on Monday. The full-season clubs should look vastly different when they return to action Tuesday, thanks to the trades the big-league club is expected to complete before the 6 p.m. ET deadline. Binghamton and Brooklyn are already feeling the effects of Freddy Peralta being traded Sunday to the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Aidan Smith, right-hander Gary Gill Hill and second baseman Émilien Pitre. Hill and Pitre were playing at Double-A in the Rays’ chain, while Smith was at High-A. Morel Mashes In Syracuse's Slugfest Win Make it eight home runs and a 1.174 OPS in 21 games with Syracuse for the former Cub, Ray and Marlin. Morel started his hat trick with a two-run drive in the third inning that gave the Mets a 5-1 lead. After Rochester scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 advantage, he teed off in the sixth for homer No. 2. With Zack Short and Christian Arroyo aboard, he sent a Justin Lawrence pitch out of sight to put Syracuse back in front 8-7. Now, he waits to find out who will trade for him. Image courtesy of USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect - Gary Gill Hill Shown The second piece of the New York Mets’ 2026 sell-off is out the door, as right-hander Freddy Peralta moves to the Tampa Bay Rays. As with all the deals team president David Stearns will make between now and the 6 p.m. ET Monday trade deadline, prospects comprise the return. In this deal, Stearns has plucked two who appear to fit the profile that he favors. In exchange for seven weeks of Peralta, the Mets on Sunday acquired three minor leaguers: outfielder Aidan Smith, right-hander Gary Gill Hill and infielder Emilien Pitre. None of them were ranked in MLB Pipeline’s overall Top 100 or Rays Top 10. Smith was ranked highest at 15th among Rays prospects, followed by Hill at 26th and Pitre at 27th. So, what will each player bring to the Mets’ organization? A quick rundown: Aidan Smith Smith, 22, has not advanced past Single-A in his five pro seasons since being drafted by the Seattle Mariners out of a Texas high school in 2023. This year, the 6-1, 190-pound center fielder settled at High-A Bowling Green, where he put together a .215/.283/.410 slash line with 10 home runs in 228 plate appearances. Prospect Savant puts his hard-hit percentage in the 83rd percentile and his barrel rate in the 76th percentile among High-A hitters. But while he hits the ball hard, he doesn’t hit it enough. Strikeouts are a real problem (32.0 percent K rate at Bowling Green, 27.9 percent for his career). His walk rate is in the 43rd percentile. Speed is not a problem, however. He had back-to-back seasons of 41 stolen bases in 2023 and 2024. A hamstring injury delayed his 2026 season debut to early May, one reason he’s at 16 steals in early August. Smith is on his third organization since being drafted. The Mariners sent him to the Rays in the Randy Arozarena trade in July 2024. Now, he’s headed to the Mets, where he brings the type of athleticism Stearns desires. Gary Gill Hill Hill, 21, is a local kid; he went to John F. Kennedy Prep in Somers, N.Y., in Westchester County. The Rays took him out of that school in the sixth round of the 2022 draft. He has advanced to Double-A Montgomery in his fourth pro season, working a regular turn for the Biscuits. His overall numbers there were underwhelming: a 1.39 WHIP, a 17.7 strikeout rate, a 2.9 percent home run rate, and a .305 opponents’ batting average. On the plus side, some of the peripherals are, well, plus. He stays in the zone, as evidenced by his 4.1 percent walk rate (96th percentile among Double-A hurlers) and near-the-top ranks in strike percentage (95th percentile) and zone percentage (96th percentile). In fact, he has almost as many walks (14) as homers allowed (10) at Montgomery. Also, his ground ball rate is in the 76th percentile. Hill also has international experience after pitching twice for Great Britain in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Emilien Pitre Pitre, 23, was the Rays’ second-round pick in the 2024 draft out of the University of Kentucky by way of Canada (he’s a Quebec native). He is primarily a second baseman, with 26 games of experience at shortstop. He has been excellent at the dish since his promotion to Double-A in mid-June: a .323/.451/.492 slash line (152 wRC+) in 163 plate appearances for Montgomery. The power isn’t quite there (three home runs, 14 extra-base hits total), but the speed sure is (11 steals, although in 18 attempts). Again, that’s something Stearns covets. And, his bat-to-ball skills are off the charts: 70 walks to 40 strikeouts in 384 PAs between two levels this season, and a 30:17 ratio at Double-A. His K and whiff rates are in the 98th percentile among Double-A hitters, his walk rate is in the 94th percentile, and his Z-contact rate is in the 95th percentile. It all adds up to a .418 wOBA with the Biscuits. The 5-11, 185-pound Pitre seems to fit exactly the “Brewers East” mold Stearns seems to have cast as Mets POBO. View full article

There were signs last year the 23-year-old infielder out of the University of Tennessee could bang. He had a .450 slugging percentage between rookie ball, Single-A and High-A; he’s up to .494 this year despite an 85-point dip in batting average (.307 to .222). The parent Mets are hoping the homers aren't a bizarre outlier and that they’ve added a big-time thumper from the right side. Amick’s Binghamton bow ended in a split. The Rumble Ponies won the opener 10-5. Elsewhere in the organization . . . Clay Holmes’ final audition for teams ahead of Monday’s MLB trade deadline will take place in Brooklyn, not Queens. The right-hander will make a minor league rehab start for the Cyclones on Sunday rather than be activated to pitch for the big-league Mets against the Miami Marlins. (Robert Stock will come up from Syracuse for that assignment instead.) Holmes will throw around 70 to 75 pitches, MLB.com reported Saturday. He wants to be fully stretched out before he returns to the majors — “wherever that is,” he said, per The Associated Press. Syracuse lost 3-1 to Rochester. Jonathan Santucci made his Triple-A debut for the Mets, with mixed results. Hayden Senger homered for Syracuse’s run. Brooklyn fell to Winston-Salem 6-3. Jacob Reimer singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Cyclones. St. Lucie doubled up Dunedin 6-3 in 10 innings. Wyatt Vincent’s sacrifice fly broke the tie in the 10th. DSL Mets Blue lost 13-2 to DSL Blue Jays Red. Dayron Oramas and Michalle Mercedes drove in the Mets’ runs. He needed 90 pitches (52 strikes) to get through four innings. He walked five, struck out seven, and allowed two runs and five hits. Both Rochester runs scored in the second inning, on an RBI triple and an RBI double. Senger cut the deficit to 2-1 with his ninth home run of the season and his first since July 2. Rochester answered in the bottom half with a run against Nate Lavender. Billy Amick has learned how to hit the ball out of the park in his third minor-league season. It appears he will keep applying those lessons with his new team. Amick, one of two players acquired by the New York Mets from the Minnesota Twins on Friday in a trade for left-handed reliever A.J. Minter, homered in his debut for Double-A Binghamton on Saturday in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Reading. The two-run blast in the seventh inning cut the Rumble Ponies’ deficit to two in an eventual 5-4 loss. Amick is up to 24 homers this season between Binghamton and Double-A Wichita, quite the power surge for a player who had seven homers in 2024 and 2025 combined in about three dozen fewer plate appearances. On a percentage basis, Amick’s 6.3 homer rate in 2026 is more than triple the 2.0 percent rate of his first two seasons. New York Mets Transactions New York Mets selected the contract of RHP Kevin Herget from Syracuse Mets. New York Mets optioned RHP Xzavion Curry to Syracuse Mets. Santucci's Syracuse Debut Has A Bit Of Everything Santucci made his first Triple-A start since being promoted from Double-A earlier in the week. It was an adventure. Two rehab notes: Dedniel Núñez pitched a scoreless seventh with a strikeout, while Mike Tauchman played left field and finished 0-for-3. R.J. Gordon turned in his most efficient start of the season Friday, just as the organization is shaking up its major league pitching staff. The No. 18 prospect in Grand Central Mets' July prospect top 20 went seven innings at Reading, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked none and struck out seven. Most impressively, he did it on just 89 pitches because he lived in the zone all night (62 strikes). A consequence of that command was Gordon being touched up for two home runs, but the organization will take the ratio. He has slowly built up his workload up after suffering a lat injury in the spring. His stats have suffered as a result of so many short outings: Friday's start lowered his ERA with the Ponies to 6.02 (he rehabbed at St. Lucie before joining Binghamton). He appears to be fully back after working deep into a game for the first time this year. As for the game, the Ponies' bullpen gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth and two more in the bottom of the ninth, and Binghamton lost 6-5. Elsewhere in the organization: Syracuse lost 10-1 to Rochester. The Red Wings scored nine runs in the third inning to decide it. Jihwan Bae broke up the Red Wings' shutout bid with an RBI grounder in the ninth. Brooklyn was blown out 14-4 by Winston-Salem. The Cyclones fell into a hole early as the Dash scored six runs in the second inning. Yonatan Henriquez homered in the loss. St. Lucie was shut out 5-0 by Dunedin. The Blue Jays scored all their runs in the bottom of the eighth. Mets starter Ethan Lanthier allowed one hit over four innings. DSL Mets Blue and DSL Mets Orange split their games. Blue lost 10-6 to the DSL Marlins, while Orange routed DSL Tigers 1, 9-2. New York Mets Transactions New York Mets traded LHP A.J. Minter to Minnesota Twins for minor league INFs Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. New York Mets recalled RHP Xzavion Curry from Syracuse Mets. New York Mets recalled RHP Jonathan Pintaro from Syracuse Mets. New York Mets placed LHP Cionel Pérez on the 15-day injured list retroactive to July 30, 2026. Left forearm strain. New York Mets sent RHP Austin Warren on a rehab assignment to Brooklyn Cyclones. Nine-Run Third Buries Syracuse Mets starter Jack Weisenburger gave up one hit over the first two innings, but then allowed the first six batters in the third to reach base. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases, and consecutive two-run doubles made it 4-0. A two-run home run followed, and Weisenburger was done. Dan Hammer came on and allowed a single and walk to make it eight in a row, before recording a strikeout. Another walk loaded the bases, and after a second strikeout, a two-run single and an RBI single made it a nine-run inning. Matt Seelinger, Joe Jacques and Ofreidy Gómez combined for five innings of one-run ball after the third. Syracuse's lone run came when Jihwan Bae grounded into a force-out with the bases loaded in the ninth, scoring Cristian Pache, who had walked. Reading got one back in the bottom half on a solo homer. JT Schwartz led off the eighth with a home run for a 5-3 advantage. Reading answered again with a run in the bottom half. Garrett Stratton then blew the save in the ninth, his second blown save in three days. Back-to-back singles with one out put runners at the corners, An RBI groundout then tied the game, and after an intentional walk set up a force at any base, a single ended it. Brooklyn cut the margin to 6-3 after six, but the Dash responded with two runs in the seventh, five in the eighth and one in the ninth. Rehabbing major leaguer Austin Warren helped keep Brooklyn in the game with a scoreless third. He struck out one as he threw 14 pitches. Joel Diaz followed and threw three scoreless innings of long relief. Henriquez got Brooklyn on the board in the third with a solo homer, his fourth of the season. It came after Jacob Reimer (No. 6) homered with one out for a 1-0 lead. Colin Houck tripled to open the second and scored on Chase Meggers' single for a 5-0 lead. Brooklyn tacked on a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Obispo was sharp but just failed to qualify for the win. He was taken out after 4 2/3 innings of one-hit, one-walk ball. He was charged with a run after Gregori Louis walked in an inherited runner with two outs. Brooklyn finished with 14 hits, eight of them for extra bases (five doubles, a triple, and two homers). Jonah Tong isn't going anywhere at the MLB trade deadline, except maybe back to New York. With the big-league Mets having officially begun their pitching sell-off, the time is growing closer for Tong (No. 1 in Grand Central Mets' latest prospect Top 20) to get another shot in the Show. If he does receive the call in the next few days, he'll be coming in with confidence, based off his outing Thursday night. Tong allowed two hits, walked two and struck out seven over five scoreless innings as he led Triple-A Syracuse to a 2-0 win and a doubleheader split with Rochester. His fastball topped out at 97.9 mph, per MLB Pipeline. He was efficient, with 56 strikes in 89 pitches (63 percent). That's significant for a pitcher who struggles to throw strikes: his Triple-A walk rate this year is a too-high 13.3 percent, although the 27.8 percent strikeout rate mitigates it some. The short version of Mitch Voit’s Double-A debut: Well, that was easy. No, it wasn’t easy, but Voit (No. 7 in Grand Central Mets’ Top 20) looked like he belonged as he played shortstop and led off for Binghamton at Reading on Wednesday. He got to work right away with a long double over the center fielder’s head on the second pitch of the game. Ready or not, Clay Holmes is on his way back to the New York Mets. He’ll spend the rest of this week waiting to see when and for whom his next start will be. The right-hander completed an abbreviated minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with four scoreless innings for Single-A St. Lucie at Dunedin. He allowed two hits and two walks and struck out three. He threw 59 pitches, his biggest workload in his three rehab outings, with 37 for strikes. MLB.com reported that Holmes reached 94.1 mph with his sinker. As of now, he’s lined up to make his next start Sunday, one day ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, with his pitch count around 70. If he reports no problems after Tuesday’s start, trade talks figure to move to full steam ahead, and Sunday may never come into play; either the Mets will deal him before then, or they’ll hold back one of their top trade assets to extract maximum value. Holmes pitched for a St. Lucie squad that was overhauled earlier in the week amid a series of late-season promotions by the organization. Ten players were called up from the FCL Mets on Monday, and six of them were in the starting lineup Tuesday. All six contributed to a 14-6 victory. The full list of promotions, per the affiliates’ respective transactions pages: To Syracuse from Binghamton (1): LHP Jonathan Santucci (No. 8 prospect in Grand Central Mets’ Top 20) To Binghamton from Brooklyn (2): RHP Noah Hall, SS/2B Mitch Voit (No. 7) To Brooklyn from St. Lucie (6): RHP Joel Diaz, OF Randy Guzman (No. 14), SS/3B Antonio Jimenez (No. 17), C Chase Meggers, RHP Emilio Obispo, INF/OF Trey Snyder To St. Lucie from FCL Mets (10): OF Bohan Adderley, OF Kuhio Aloy, INF Dylan Carey, INF Vladi Gomez, OF Aiden Robbins, C Yovanny Rodriguez, INF Kooper Schulte, OF John Smith III, C Ryan Tayman, OF Wyatt Vincent. Robbins, Tayman, Aloy, Smith and Schulte were all taken by the Mets in the MLB Draft earlier this month. Elsewhere in the organization: Syracuse lost to Rochester 6-5. Ronny Mauricio and Nick Morabito (No. 5) homered in the loss. Mike Tauchman, still on rehab, went 0-for-5. Tobias Myers gave up five runs in the second inning. Voit’s Binghamton debut was postponed because of rain in Reading, Pa. The clubs will make up the game Saturday as part of a twilight doubleheader. Game 1 is set for 4:30 p.m. ET. Brooklyn dropped a 10-6 decision to Winston-Salem. Guzman, Jimenez and Snyder all were in the lineup for the Cyclones. Rehabbing big-leaguer Andy Ibañez had three hits and scored a run. DSL Mets Blue topped the DSL Cardinals 5-4. Sanchez and Oramas each had two hits and two RBIs. Marquez allowed a run and no hits over three innings. DSL Orange lost 6-5 to DSL Arizona Red. Wandy Asigen (No. 12) hit his first professional home run, a solo shot in the fifth inning. New York Mets Transactions No Roster Moves Morabito, Mauricio Supply The Offense For Syracuse The M&M Boys combined for four hits, five RBIs and four runs scored. They started early as they put Syracuse ahead 1-0 in the first. Morabito opened the game with a single and later scored on Mauricio's sacrifice fly. Rochester answered with five runs in the second against Myers. Four straight singles produced the tying run, a forceout brought home the go-ahead run, a wild pitch made it 3-1, and a two-run double closed out the inning. Myers left after 1 2/3 innings. Morabito cut into the deficit in the third with a two-run home run to left-center. Mauricio sliced it further in the seventh with a two-run home run to left. Syracuse couldn't do anything after that. Jacob Reimer is making his way back from a groin injury that kept him out of action for about a month. He took another step forward Sunday. The No. 6 prospect in Grand Central Mets' Top 20 reached base three times and drove in two runs in his first game with St. Lucie as the Mets outslugged Fort Myers 11-8. He played nine innings at third base. Reimer joined St. Lucie after playing in three games for the FCL Mets last week. He went on the seven-day injured list in mid-June with Double-A Binghamton. The 22-year-old corner infielder had put himself high on the prospect list with a big 2025 season, but he was having a tough time at Double-A this year prior to the injury. He was sporting a .723 OPS and five home runs in 50 games for the Rumble Ponies. He was striking out at 26.6 percent rate. Elsewhere in the organization: Syracuse lost its series finale to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3-2. Christopher Morel accounted for both Mets runs with an RBI double and a solo home run. Jack Weisenburger opened and threw three perfect innings. Binghamton downed Portland 8-4. Jose Ramos went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and the Rumble Ponies' bullpen threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Brooklyn rolled past Jersey Shore 6-1. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored twice in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. The second run came home on a throwing error charged to Christian Arroyo as he tried to turn a double play, although it appeared as if Morel missed the throw at first base. The RailRiders added insurance in the eighth with a solo home run. Weisenburger struck out two and threw 21 of his 30 pitches for strikes. Joey Gerber followed him in the fourth and gave up the RailRiders' first two runs. Xzavion Curry, back from New York, worked two innings in relief. Jeremy Rodriguez singled to score Zayas. After a flyout, Reimer was hit by a pitch to force in Meggers. Trey Snyder then walked to score De Oleo, Guzman singled to center, bringing home Rodriguez and Reimer. Zayas singled to center, scoring Snyder and Guzman, for an 8-5 lead. The Mets added three more in the third on an RBI single by Elian Peña, Reimer's RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Snyder. Bulk reliever Conner Ware the beneficiary of all this support. He was lights-out in his four scoreless innings of work, striking out eight, walking one and allowing one hit. St. Lucie fell into an early hole as another opener failed to get out of the first inning. Nathan Hall recorded just one out. He was charged with three runs on two hits and two walks. Zack Mack was charged with the other two runs. Rodriguez finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
