The short version of Mitch Voit’s Double-A debut: Well, that was easy.
No, it wasn’t easy, but Voit (No. 7 in Grand Central Mets’ Top 20) looked like he belonged as he played shortstop and led off for Binghamton at Reading on Wednesday.
He got to work right away with a long double over the center fielder’s head on the second pitch of the game.

In the sixth, he doubled to right. One inning later, he banged a triple off the center-field wall (which the center fielder played strangely) for his third extra-base hit of the evening.

A good first impression, but remember, Voit is making a big jump up in class, to the place where prospects are candidates for promotion to the big club. He’s 21 and playing in his first full professional season after being drafted in the first round (38th overall) last year. He’s still in the developmental stage. But Wednesday was a positive development, no doubt.
As for the game, Binghamton gave up two runs on an error in the bottom of the ninth and lost 7-6.
Elsewhere in the organization:
Syracuse’s game at Rochester was postponed because of wet grounds. It will be made up as part of a twi-night doubleheader Thursday. Game 1 is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. ET.
Brooklyn got a two-out, three-run walk-off home run from Daiverson Gutierrez in the bottom of the ninth to beat Winston-Salem 8-6. Colin Houck, the 2023 first-rounder, went 4-for-4.
St. Lucie lost 14-9 at Dunedin. The Mets allowed four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to let a lead slip away. Yovanny Rodriguez and Bohan Adderley each hit their first home run for St. Lucie.
The DSL Mets teams had the day off.

Rumble Ponies Lose On Error In Ninth
The tying and winning runs scored for Reading when pitcher Garrett Stratton bobbled, and then threw away, a chopper to the mound with runners on first and second and one out.
Binghamton went ahead 6-4 in the sixth. Voit led off the inning with his second double, and then Chris Suero (No. 10) and John Bay walked to load the bases. Nick Lorusso singled home Voit, and Jose Ramos delivered a sacrifice fly to bring in Suero.
Reading cut the lead to 6-5 with a run in the seventh.
First baseman Corey Collins stayed hot as he began his second week at Double-A. He hit a long home run to right and an RBI single. He has two homers and a 1.111 OPS in seven games for the Ponies.

Gutierrez Walks Off Winston-Salem
The Cyclones’ radio broadcast noted that the team now has three walk-off victories this season and Gutierrez has delivered the winning hit in each of them.

The decisive blow came after Randy Guzman (No. 14) singled home a run to make the score 6-5.
Brooklyn erased a pair of deficits in this one. They were down 4-0 before scoring four runs in the sixth. With two out, Antonio Jimenez (No. 17) doubled home Jamari Baylor, and Houck singled in Jimenez to make it 4-2. Yohairo Cuevas walked, and then Trace Willhoite doubled in Houck and Cuevas to even the score.
Winston-Salem scored in the seventh and ninth for a 6-4 lead.

St. Lucie Outslugged In Dunedin
The Mets briefly led after scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. Branny De Oleo hit an RBI double and Simon Juan followed with a two-run homer to tie the game. Adderley, who was called up from the FCL Mets this week, made it back-to-back long balls with a solo shot for a 9-8 lead.
Zack Mack and Joe Scarborough were the bullpen arsonists, combining to give up the final six runs of the game. In all, Mets pitchers allowed 14 hits and 11 walks over eight innings. Elwis Mijares was the best of the six who took the mound, striking out three over 2 1/3 scoreless frames of relief.
Elian Peña (No. 4) added two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
