Our Mets Hall of Fame - Removal Election 2
Cowtipper replied to Cowtipper's topic in New York Mets Talk
My votes remain unchanged from last time: Agbayani, Benitez and Brooks. The new three, Cespedes, Chavez and Clendenon, contributed enough to Mets lore to legitimize keeping around. Cespedes' 2015 heroics carry him, but he's boosted by his regular season numbers, Chavez was vital to 2006 and his catch is great enough to also help carry him over and Clendenon was necessary for the Mets to go to and win the 1969 World Series. All three are based largely around postseason heroics, and since postseason heroics are relatively rare in Mets history, the great examples should be appreciated. -
It is strongly encouraged that you also list who you voted for in the thread. On another baseball forum, I ran a project cleverly titled "Our Mets Hall of Fame." As you can see, it is a fairly inclusive Hall; we considered not just stats, but how players contributed to the overall Mets story, lore, ethos etc. Well, I left that forum as I was spending too much time there, but the desire to continue this project never went away. To contour this project more to this community's views and standards, I'm going to run a series of elections to see who folks want to REMOVE from it; since I don't want to see it completely stripped, I'll set the qualifying percentage for removal at 75%, just like the real Hall's standard for election.* I'll do ten names at a time, one poll per week, and you can select up to five names per poll. We can do holdovers for up to three** ballots. 5% will be the cutoff there, also just like the real Hall. *That'll require some finagling to figure out 75% due to how the polls here do percentages, but we'll figure it out. **I originally had 10, but that seemed like too many. ***then I lowered it to three. Then we'll eventually run a series of polls to actually elect people -- the old website got us up to the Mets through 2024, so basically all we'll have to do is 2025 (and probably 2026), so we have time before we get too far behind. Then in the long-winding convoluted process of projects like this, we'll likely do Veterans Committees where we'll reanalyze players not elected, previously removed, etc. some time in the future, as by then the standards of the project here will have been more formally established and some of the players we previously booted might want to be reconsidered. Our Mets Hall of Fame - Removal Election 1
Cowtipper replied to Cowtipper's topic in New York Mets Talk
Because it can't be eight out of eight ballots if two people voted for none of the above. And if they played this game fairly, which I assume they did because otherwise they're really terrible people who deserve to be tarred and feathered, that means they made only one choice. And that choice can't possibly include Hubie Brooks. Of course, I can't account dishonesty, but we must assume people voted in the spirit of the project. And yes whippoorwill, he can stay. I'll probably drop the number of times a player can be held over to something like three, because if people are as inclusive here as they were at the other place, we'll eventually just see a backlog where the same names get put out there over and over. Which, of course, wouldn't be fun. I'll do a new poll latron. -

Well, this was easy to tabulate. It would be statistically impossible for anyone to have reached 75% based on the voting details that we (or I) know and how many total selections there were. At most, Hubie Brooks got about 73% of the vote in terms of total voters, rather than total selections. -
David Stearns Press Conference at 3 p.m.
Cowtipper replied to Centerfield's topic in New York Mets Talk
I saw on FOX News that someone leaked the details. The Mets are moving to Waukegan and will be called the Milkers, and every uniform will have a set of silicone udders dangling off the front. Weird decision, but okay. -
It appears Jacob Nottingham has retired. Paolo Espino retired.

Yuji Otsuka was a Japanese baseball player born in Yonago, Tottori, who signed with the Hankyu Braves in 1959. His professional career was extremely brief—recording only three at-bats before retiring in 1962—and he died in his hometown in 2025.

Francisco Lindor: Lindor (hand) took swings Wednesday for the first time since undergoing hamate bone surgery, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. It's a big step in Lindor's recovery, as he tries to ensure he's ready for Opening Day. The veteran shortstop has avoided setbacks in his rehab so far, but he's still a long way from having a firm timeline for spring game action. For now, Lindor will continue his hitting progression in controlled environments. Injury Hand. Est. Return 3/26/2026. A.J. Minter: Minter (lat) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. It will be his first time facing hitters since he underwent left lat surgery last May. Minter hopes to pitch in at least one Grapefruit League game before camp breaks and is aiming for his season debut in late April or early May. Injury Lat. Est. Return 5/1/2026. Robert Stock: Stock (shoulder) said Sunday that he'll require surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Stock is leaving the door open to pitch late in the season, but since he had been attending Mets camp on a minor-league deal, he's unlikely to surface in the majors at any point in 2026. The right-hander first experienced discomfort in his shoulder following his start Tuesday for Team Israel in an exhibition game against the Marlins. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 9/1/2026. Brandon Waddell: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Waddell is dealing with shoulder discomfort and won't pitch in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins as planned, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. The severity of the shoulder issue isn't fully known, but Waddell will likely be shut down for at least a few days. The southpaw resurfaced in the majors last season for the first time since 2021, appearing in 11 games and posting a 3.45 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB over 31.1 innings with the Mets. Waddell no longer occupies a spot on the 40-man roster and is expected to open the season as a swingman at Triple-A Syracuse. Injury Shoulder. Day-To-Day.

Oh no, not Robert Stock.

The Unisphere is what they called me when I had an undescended testicle.
-
No, you called me out by name. Incorrectly so, I might add. It''s either KC or kcmets and not KCMets. Branding lol... Sorry for capitalizing your name slightly incorrectly, That never happens On the internet. Anyway, the one with the pizzazz is still the best choice.
-
I'm not sassing you, I'm sassing the fella above me, you're just caught in-between. Sorry for victimizing you, but it was worth it.
-
Yeah, once again not every Mets fan in America lives in the five boroughs... ot has any idea what a NYC a subway sign looks like. KCMets where are you from? Oh that's right, Kansas City (honestly I imagine you do, I have no idea, don't tell I'm wrong because then I'll look more stupider than normal). How about we pick a design that the entire fan base can understand and relate to, not just the ones that live in the city itself, which represents abouts one-10 billionth of the US in term of geographical size? Don't tell me I'm wrong I'm all fired up and you can't stop me.
-
1 & 2 are too basic with no real character, #3 is slightly less basic with slightly more character and #5 the off-center GCM is unappealing. #4 has a bit more pizzazz so that gets my vote.

This game should be like 40-2 Mets. The people on the Israeli team are hardly formidable. This Agresti fella that's up at bat has been in pro ball since 2018, yet hasn't played beyond indy ball. And it's weak indy ball, too, the Frontier League. -

Hopefully when we move to our new home -- which I have fully embraced and endorsed without any pushback since day 1 -- the polling system will be a bit more standard. This is the only forum I've been on that tabulates results the way it does. -
