Either you have it or you don't. You're right, no one is watching for it when it happens except those trained to, but if no one can even see it on the super slo-mo replay then it really opens itself up to valid questions.
  2. I also thought it was a crappy way for the Mets to win and 'Mando to lose. I read this morning that Benitez agreed with the second balk call but not the first. But if neither were called no one would've argued anyway. That rule needs to have a more generally accepted interperatation I think. I genuinely felt bad for the guy. I also agree that Benitez has gotten quite the bad rap over the years and point to CF's classic defenses of 'Mando that were posted mostly on the MoFo during the 'Benitez Wars'. CF made a very convincing argument on Armando's behalf. Watched the game last night in HD for the first time. The fact that it was on ESPN HD and SNY HD gave me a chance to flip back and forth to compare the two pictures. I didn't think there was a difference in HD quality from one HD channel to the next but wow was there ever. ESPN's was so far superior to SNY's. Mostly apparent from the centerfield camera shot. I tried watching the game on ESPN but the graphics all over the screen combined with Sutcliffe and whoever the hell those other two rednecks in the booth were, made it border on impossible. I watched most of it on SNY even with the lesser quality resolution. Anyone else ever experience different levels of HD? Is that a usual thing?
  3. After hooking up my new HD set this weekend and the missus picking up the digital box (all the better to interact with the exploding junk) this morning - tonight will be my first High-Def Mets game. Oh yeah..

  6. Well I guess you prove me wrong. If the higher percentage is not sacrificing then that's what I'd do as well.
  7. If your philosophy is different than Willie's that's cool, but you can't get on him for going for the higher percentage play
  8. I'm not sure I disagree with the bunt there. I was watching that with 4 other guys last night and none of them liked it, but it puts the tying run in scoring position with a guy who is supposed to be your #1 PH coming up. If Franco gets the hit do you still diasgree with the bunt?

  12. Golly. I'm sorry.
  13. You've also gotta assume that if the Mets are investing in building baseball academies in the DR then they are of the opinion that an international draft ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

  16. Yeah, I'm getting less and less incensed at this issue as time goes by. Barry Bonds use to really tighten my colon but I don't really care that much about him anymore. I want steroids in baseball eradicated but the fact that theree were so many guys using that it, in effect leveled the playing field, sort of balances it all out.
  17. Well anybody is a 'possibility'. Piazza? He was great when he was young, he got old and wore down. Where's the big head? Where are the advanced age career numbers? He lost weight? That's it? C'mon. And why Hundley & Hampton? Because they had great years and then broke down? That's never happened to any player who never juiced? I'll give you Dykstra but for any reason Steve has that he suspects the others I'm sure I could find players from the pre-steroid era whose career arcs are similar.
  18. Hysterical.
  19. I'm sorry, I don't mean to backtrack here but Steve Rogers says that there are rumblings and mumblings that Piazza, Ventura, Hampton, Hundley and HoJo all took steroids? What the fuck? I've never heard that. Am I an ignorant moron (rhetorical!) or is anybody else hearing this for the first time?

  22. ="Centerfield"]Nicknames aside, Raissman has really been cranking them out of the park this year. It's nice to see someone in the media call out those MFY broadcasters for what they are. Now if he would just shave that squirrel off his face he might approach respectability...
