  1. I didn't realize Willie was that adamant about Lo Duca batting second. Sounds like a horrible idea to me.

They were playing the Phillies that day and Gooden was on the mound. A Wally Backman type punch-and-judy hitter (I guess that's redundant) came to bat. Kevin was playing him straight away and deep. I yelled, "Kevin. This guy won't hit ti there. Play in and closer to the line!". He looked around, trying to figure out who was yelling to him, then moved in and toward the line. Sure enough, the batter was late on a fastball and blooped the ball down the line. Kevin only had to move in one or two steps and made an easy catch. I doubt he would have been able to get to the ball from where he was originally standing. After the catch, he looked around again. I stood up, waved, and yelled "It was me". He smiled, and tipped his cap. Later That's a great story. SC = zero
  3. I miss wearing my glove on my head.
  4. Rotblatt wrote: Maybe he didn't have anything right before deadline, and copied & pasted unused shit from three months ago. Which would make for a pretty hilarious satire, too, now that I think about it. Just think of all the material that DIDN'T make the grade for these hacks. Actually, my brain hurts just trying to wrap itself around how truely awful the unused bits must be, so maybe it's best to NOT think about it. Beautiful. Every word true.
  5. I can't believe that writers are still getting paid for writing Manny to the Mets stories.]Manny Ramirez is at it again with the Red Sox and will not be in camp today when their position players report. The Mets need to take advantage of another case of "Manny Being Manny." I heard it on the radio about 5 times that Manny had asked for and received permission to arrive at camp on March 2nd.It's good to know that the Post is sticking to their usual journalistic standards.

  8. ]I'd hate to think that whenever Reyes leads off the first by getting on base, that the Mets are going to play for only one run. (Stolen base, grounder to the right side, sac fly.) Let Lo Duca (if he's hitting second) try to get a base hit. Then you have two guys on with Beltran, Delgado, and Wright coming up. Why squander a chance to get four or five runs in the first inning?I'm not familiar with any of them myself, but there have to be some studies out there weighing the usefulness of the sacrifice bunt versus swinging away.
  9. There is way to much hate for the sacrifice bunt in these parts.
  10. Jose Reyes SS Carlos Beltran CF David Wright 3B Carlos Delgado 1B Cliff Floyd LF Victor Diaz RF Paul Lo Duca C Kaz Matsui 2B I also think this is the best bet. I still feel like we're one big bat away, be it Diaz or Nady in RF. I'm worried about Cornelius getting hurt.
  11. Well said.
  12. That's definitely a problem, no matter who makes the team. I guess Beltran just isn't going to get much rest. That Cammy/Nady trade is looking better every day. SC = 1 billion Way to go Omar!
  13. Never said it was undebatable. Just hoping to crack the prediction archives with a bold statement. I am also thinking that Chavez and his lifetime .658 OPS (.562 last year) should not be the fourth outfielder on the depth chart.
  14. They're both making the team.
  15. They're both making the team.
  16. Farmer Ted wrote: Bonds has a right knee made of glass yet NO ONE pitches him down and in? Bonds loves pitches down and in. He's a lefty. Unless by "pitch him down and in" you mean "hit him on the knee".
  17. I'll be there.

    Whew. Crisis averted.

  21. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know that there's an All-Dodged-Bullet Met team, for players the Mets almost dealt for but wisely didn't, but he's definitely the cleanup hitter. Was it a matter of being wise or that Omar just couldn't deliver what Chicago wanted?
  22. Edgy DC wrote: Way too much was made of that and it was Exhibit A of much of the animus that peeps have for McReynolds. If the Mets win, that quote is a celebrated colorful side story. It was in a response to a "Don't you feel the pressure?!" type question and he was, in his own way, trying to say, "No, because I have a zen-like detachment, and pressure comes from attachment. Attachment is not the jedi way." I think that collision is my exhibit A that the Mets loss was not due to any lack of desire on McReynolds' part. Beautifully put Mister DC. People say he had no desire and yet here he is running catcher's over like a WS championship is his only dream in the world. The twisting of that quote is another example of sportswriters using an innocuous statement to create buzz, a buzz that lasts 18 fucking years and counting, as morons for all ages will be quoting it. Of course, some sports writers like Mr. Healey would have you believe this never happens.
  23. I doubt this will come to fisticuffs.
  24. I don't know how else to say it. I have noticed in the past that you don't like being told what or how to post. So when I said to shrink the picture, I figured you would say something slighty snarky, like you did with "Mr. Mayor". But I agree with you that this is a normal reaction, and like you said, a stranger telling someone what to do is annoying. Right off the bat, I actually pointed out that there was no reason for me to try to tell you what to do. There is nothing to get aggravated about here. Watch that BP. If you got weirded out or aggravated over my innocuous posts in this thread, then you might actually die if someone ever curses you out or something.
  25. Last game of the season was incredible, even though we got pasted. Only Willie could have fucked it up, and he did in part. Still an amazing experience.
