  1. If the Mets are going to make a splash this off season they better go for it while there are still some big fish in the pool.
  2. Yea, why don't we start a thread and whenever we come across a Shea backround card we'll collect it in the thread. Don't even have to worry about decade, just gather em up, sort em out later. That be kool.
  3. I consider this a frustrating event.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: I think Niese still clocks in as the Mets' number one, but yeah. Agree with that as it stands now. I like how I read that other teams are signing and re-signing players and the story for the Mets is "Mets Plan To Talk To Someone". Get this done Sandy.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: "I would say that David Wright is too good for the Mets, but then I heard him sing." --- Mrs. Edgy lmao!
  6. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I wonder if David Wright is secretly regretting signing with the Mets last year before ever testing the free agent market. Just one year after his signing and already, it appear that he left a lot of dough on the table to play for the 'Pons. Plus, he would've been the cream of this year's FA crop. Plus, the richest team in American sports could use a third baseman, especially one that's still considered a star. Plus, the odds that the Mets'll contend before Wright starts to decline are about 12% lower than they were this time, last year. If making money was Wrights priority he would not be playing here now. Regret? Now? No, not yet. The guys got faith. And I hope in two or three years time he isn't feeling regret. If that came to pass it would make him just another sucker. Like us. He don't deserve that fate.
  7. Actually Lucas put on the best performance of the lot of 'em.
  8. Way too early for me to consider Harvey in this discussion. I can with my heart but not with my head. It took up until just before he went down for me to accept even early comparisons with Seaver. He was talking the talk but I wanted to see him walk the walk, which he was doing. I don't think anyone ever tops Tom for a bunch of reasons, #1 being because of how the game has changed since his days.
  9. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: No way I'm giving up a top prospect for Braun. He comes cheap or not at all. For me, simple. This^.
  10. Looks like the sideshow has already begun.
  11. I dunno about Braun. That'd be one huge sideshow.
  12. Did a great job, was a kool well spoken dude, obviously wants to be a leader type of guy going by his most recent sound bits. I wish him well. Liked him in Fringe too.It must be Fringe Night
  13. Hey, that's business kid. Good luck with that.

  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: Boy, I could go for a Hamm's in a seamless all aluminum can right now. I had never heard of Hamms before I viewed this. And for 1965, those are some pricy commercials they made. At least I imagine they were with the animation and all. I do vaguely remember seamed cans.
  17. If we get a shortstop, great. It's sad to say almost anyone would be an upgrade. But if we don't I am all in favor of giving Tejeda another shot. He's so young at 24. He can do a decent job, we've seen him do it. In limited play he batted over .280 in both 2011 and '12. It's keeping him on the field and a slightly immature attitude (that's my opinion) that's been a problem. But he's only 24. He really should mature and develop into a solid starting shortstop. There's only one thing stopping him. Himself. I'd be fine with giving him a few months to show if he can get there with us or not. Short leash though.
  18. I didn't want to start a whole thread for this but I really want to share this with you folks. Its damn good quality footage from 1965. Check the time taken by players to do all sorts of things. Check out that Maloney threw over 180 pitches. Look at lil Pete Rose, skinny Billy Williams, forever young Ernie Banks. Check out big Frank Robinson in those crazy old Reds unis with the names under the numbers on the back. Check out the commercials. I love this kind of stuff. 19. Frayed Knot wrote: The future of the franchise does not depend on Jhonny Peralta being in a Met uniform next year. I'll take him if I can get him but, if not, you live with an alternative and try to improve the team by spending your allowance elsewhere. Well put. I'm with FK on this.
  20. Vic Sage wrote: it's just money, and it's not mine. if you're as flush as you say, Freddie, then sign him. I agree with this but also want them to spend as wisely as ever. Grandy would not be an unwise move. If they can pull him in, sure, yea, go for it. Gimme something to watch next season.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: The bit about Byrd giving out advice is a hoot and a half. He was the club's standout offensive player for close to three months and was enough of a mensch to work with other players, yet he's cast as a busybody who's shoving a wrench into the well-oiled Big Met Machine. Agreed on this. I guess Martino gets to stir shit too.
  22. CPF Trivia Factoid: That logo was designed by my uncle/godfather in a logo design contest during the 1988-89 offseason. I wore that pin on the inside of my jacket on Jeopardy! for luck. (Didn't work, obviously.) WoW!
  23. Trout will win his share. Probably win the next ten in a row. Glad McCuthenson got it.
  24. "The Mets are like NASA," Boras said Wednesday afternoon at the GM Meetings. "They have big rockets, a lot of platforms and very few astronauts. Astronauts are hard to find. They've got one guy with the 'Wright' stuff. That's for sure. And they've got a lot of 'Arm'-strongs, too. But they're certainly a club that I'm sure is in a pursuit of a higher level of talent." This had to be something he prepared, not an off the cuff comment. As a Met fan I'm flattered he took the time. batmagadanleadoff wrote: That Boras has to resort to shame the Mets into spending, pretty much clinches that the Mets ain't getting Choo. No Chit.
  25. I confess that I stole this cats idea from myself, circa 2010 Ha, great read. Your wife gets the credit. This part is the clincher: "And theyre cats! You cant herd them. Theyll run all over the ballpark every which way. Its all part of the fun." If we are talking real cats, they could shine flashlight beams on the field from the press level and the cats will follow them anywhere at amazing speeds. Have em run up the OF wall, over the tops of dugouts and every once in a while freeze the cat in place so he can swat at the light a lil bit, eventually being led to the finishing line. Hopefully that would keep it from running more than five minutes.
