( there seems no visible sunset to Beltran's absence? David Lennon reported yesterday that that sun might actually begin to set. but the premise remains the same, we don't know if it will _actually_ set. I was a big proponent of bringing back Reyes as soon as humanly possible, was annoyed at the baby pace they set for him, and felt it was better him getting into shape with the Mets and that half of Reyes was still better than Cora. I'm wondering if that was foolish now and that maybe Reyes should've had a whole nother week or two. Despite him playing what would've been a full set of Spring Training games now, he still appears to be one step behind, and I wonder if the rush to get ready at the major league level has him stuck behind the 8-ball and had him develope some bad habits. Sort of like never getting enough sleep and just downing coffee all day. You may function, but you're never quite functional until you get that rest. Reyes had to ask for a day off a couple of weeks ago he was so worn out, and he came back off that very well. Sometimes it seems like he identifies the pitch, knows he should smash it, and just misses and pops it up. I dunno. I also wonder if, despite supposedly being told to not do anything differently, he's trying to do more batting 3rd, even subconsciously based on the having runners on more often. Added pressure while he's already trying to catch up. it's not like it's a DL stint and he has to play 15 games in the 3rd spot. I don't think anythings going to be too screwed up if he took a series off of Reyes batting third, or if he didn't bat Cora second when he gives Castillo one of his too many days off. Last year he bounced guys ar ound the lineup too much (probably neccersitated by injury party) this year he's stubbornly sticking to what he's decided. Even though he suggested Barajas could move up on Tuesday, he didn't do it. What's he waiting for, Barajas to get cold again?

But not the derelict ruins that actually exist. The Marvel Movie Universe version of the fairgrounds is a lively, neon-splashed place. I was looking for a glimpse of Citi Field, but no luck. It was obviously a CGI landscape, so there would be no chance of Citi "accidentally" getting on camera. The battle with Whiplash in Monaco was probably the coolest scene. And Scarlet Johansen, not surprisingly, made for a sexy Black Widow. I agree with this, but I bumped it up to 4 for the Flushing connection cause that always makes me happy. Mets Police found an image of a stadium on a viral site a couple of weeks ago (http://metspolice.com/2010/04/09/looks-like-shea-stadium-was-renovated-in-iron-mans-universe/) Looks almost like a cross between Shea and Citi to me. I spent half the fairgrounds scenes trying to spot it. In the video stark watchs of his father's message to him, little tony picks up a piece off the map to play with, and it almost looked like that may have been the stadium. I downloaded the movie last night so i could watch the Thor teaser at the end that I missed, so maybe I'll take another look.

  4. Pelfrey's routinely shown, and said, that his body can handle more than 100 pitches. No reason not to let him to 120+ regularly.

  6. Checked because i'm curious. Good seats, great view, full scoreboard/outfielders. oh, and pay attention, because Barajas as a tendency to launch screaming line drives right at your head.

  8. I believe Nieve warmed up though, but I don't recall seeing Feliciano (not that easy to see the bullpen from my seat). Mejia, despite people saying they shouldn't push the young 'starter' too many days in a row, also warmed up. Couldn't have let Valdes finish up as he was replaced by Carter. Probably would've been Frankie anyway, he hasn't pitched in a couple of days right? I felt like the Mets were getting chances against Olsen, and erasing themselves on DPs, but I was definitely surprised they pulled him there. The place was completely empty. Especially by the 8th inning. I was flipping out during Ike Davis' home run. I was first row 507, by first base, so I had no perception of it. I saw it hit the stairwell which is in fair territory, and Ike certainly looked like he got it. I think that was the first time I was at a review game, but I'm not sure. It certainly loses some of the dramatic effect. I remember Piazza's 3-run home run to cap the 10 run rally against the Braves on June 30th, 2000 and this would've felt kinda similiar. Oh well, I saw him and the ball angling towards the dugout to end the game and all I could think was "Again? AGAIN?!?!" as he's running over there. Shame I was too much in disbelief to raise my camera. The comeback should be good for their confidence. Just to know that they can, and will, fight back does mean something. I think David Wright and probably Bay as well really need to hit a ball that doesn't feel like a home run but carries over the fence. (The ball was really hanging up yesterday) Would do a lot for their power confidence I think, if that's actually something that bothers them. I know David Wright clobbered one early in the season at citi Field that just got too high and died on the track but probably would've left Citizen's Bank Park. (actually left the building he hit the thing so hard) The defense has to be commended. the last time that Bay made an error the Phillies hadn't even won the division yet in 2008. Wright hasn't made an error in 15 games. They've played the iffy wind amazingly well compared to the other teams, and that helps make Citi an advantage and a 10th man to the opposing team.
  9. A convention center (and a school) are in the plans for that area I believe. Arenas often go hand and hand with convention centers it seems. Chances are this would make parking suck for Mets games though, but I'll live with it.
  10. The process is already in progress with the iron triangle. A bunch of owners have already sold, although I don't know the particulars towards real progress and bulldozing. I did notice a new little stand selling mets stuff there yesterday. I just want to go to a day baseball game, have dinner at a bar somewhere there, and then watch the Islanders at night. Preferably with both the Mets and Islanders winning of course.
  11. They could probably swing MLS too, but i have no interest in that, so whatever. I've heard the Queens rumor before, and I like it. It's still Long Island, and their massive project is a little bit farther through the red tape. (bulldozing redoing the Willets Point stuff) It'll be cool when that area's built up, and an Arena would be fun. Would certainly make Howie Rose's day easier when he occasionally has an Islanders and Mets game on the same day. If the Wilpons are even able to talk about buying the Islanders, they must not be as broke as people think.

  13. Nymr83 wrote: great win. welcome aboard, Carter! another flip over the railing by Ike! the only "downside" for me is that Nieve was warming up in the 8th, presumably to come in if the Mets blew the doors open. Can we please rest this guy? If the game was out of hand enough where Rodriguez wasn't coming in despite warming up already, use Acosta. Mejia was warming up at one point too.
  14. metsguyinmichigan wrote: I was going to guess Jason Tyner until you mentioned the homer. I don't think Tyner could hit a homer if he batted from second base. Actually, Tyner has a home run (although obviously not with the Mets) a couple years ago. It was a hit down the line that just barely made it over.
  15. I'll be on the front row of 507. I'm undefeated this year at Citi Field, so things should be good. trying to decide what to eat for dinner there and which beer to get. hmm..
  16. That sounds right. Doubt he gets much time anyway, probably Wednesday as the day game after night. Although, knowing Manuel he may have to play SS in the 9th tonight.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Yes, but the offseason argument floated by more than one columnist was that Citifield and it's dimension, as a home park, has been and would remain a liability to the shortsighted team, when evidence so far suggests the opposite is true. If that's true, it seems the Mets have adjusted, and it's become a nice 10th man that's intimidating the other teams. Although I think the Giants have learned that home runs do in fact happen.
