  1. Can I just blame everyone? sickening. I've been saying all along that Warthen always seems to go out a batter too late. (in this case, not at all) Santana sucked, but why? The warning sign to me was walking Castro. Make all the "pitching around" comments you will, but that's not really Santana's style, walking the 8th guy to get to the pitcher (and he's been bad against pitchers in general). Would Warthen coming out, talking to Santana, calming in down (telling him to trust Barajas' calls?), focusing on exactly what to throw at Moyer, gotten him out of the inning?
  2. I'd argue so far Ike seems to have more plate discipline than Tatis.
  3. Why because maybe GMJ can get a hit off the slow throwing Moyer? Tatis is 8/22 apparently off him, which I guess is okay, but rather either of these guys got their game against the Reds than the Phillies. I'd rather Castillo leading off too, in general, but it doesn't seem like something that will ever happen. GMJR is 7/23, 2HR but hasn't faced him in 4 years. Pagan is 1/6.

How long before Florida's got him advertising for them, "Hey, have you been to my mansion lately? You should really check it out."
  5. NewYorkMets #Mets lineup tonight @ Philly: Matthews, Jr.-CF, Castillo-2B, Reyes-SS, Bay-LF, Wright-3B, Tatis-1B, Francoeur-RF, Barajas-C, Santana-LHP Sadly..I was right. We knew it was only a matter of time before Tatis got a start for Ike against "tough" lefty. and Matthews..you know..he's got that experience factor going for him. Leading off, he's a great table setter. As in, he should be bussing tables somewhere.
  6. So, do we think the 'regular' lineup today? I was in and out yesterday so didn't get to hear a lot of the tidbity stuff. Was Castillo rested cause he was hurting? Cause Jerry likes Cora's "experience" against Halladay? Because Castillo found Harry Potter's invisibility cloak? Sorta a big game today, kinda. Not so much because you don't want to lose to the Phillies and give anyone the idea that the Mets can't hang with them in the division or giving up first place, but I want to see how the offense/team responds to yesterday. Getting shut down by a good pitcher is nothing to be ashamed of, and hopefully they bounce back and resume their hot hitting as they've been doing. We've seen some signs of this in my opinion. They've faced some pitchers that did well, and then did wake up and hit the bullpen. Hopefully Jamie Moyer looks like me pitching out there after Halladay yesterday, and they clobber him. I'm looking forward to Miller and Morgan having to say nice things about the Mets.
  7. I don't have the "kid" problem. Although the Mets "core" is younger than me. I just hope they make Moyer look his age. Given Kendrick and that they were afraid to pitch Figgy, I suspect Moyer will at least stick out the year for ya.

I think, and this is just my own observations, that a lot of LI has really become overcrowded and plenty of it from property taxes and what not compares to NYC, and I suspect a lot of guys that come from out of state and whose families are looking for a little slower paced, quieter areas opt for other states. (Not that some of those quiet towns up on the north shore don't offer that, but I suspect they've lost some of their allure as well, a couple of decades more removed from Great Gatsby) Despite money being no object, most of these guys still think about these things. Even Super Awesome God Among Men Class-Act Derek Jeter maintained a house in Florida mainly to try to cheat NYS out of income tax. Speaking of someone who moved from Long Island (although an average town on the South Shore, not up north) to NJ I do find things better here, with the exception of the stupid bridge tolls to get to Citi.

  10. Yes, the naysayers point to the 80% strand rate and high WHIPs and what not. but what they never seem to realize that doesn't mean disaster. It doesn't mean they're going to get shelled their next time out. It could simply mean, like Niese last night, that they'll regress to the mean WITH THE WALKS, and that those walks, coupled with an already high K rate, will become outs, and strikeouts, not hits and runs. Couple that in with some cold weather and iffy situations to grip baseballs, and it's hard to try to spin the homestand into anything other than an awesome stretch that's getting the Mets the respect they deserve as one of the best teams in the NL.
  11. I always find (Charlie) Manuel seems to rearrange his rotation in a way that always denies us the most entertaining matchups. And it always seems like Hamels finds a way to avoid pitching against us. Normal rotation would've put Halladay vs. Santana, and I assume that there will be a good shot that matchup will happen a couple more times, providing an interesting storyline underneath the battle for the NL East. Actually, It seems like a poor job by Charlie. It seems like he had no faith in Figueroa or Kendrick to get the job done (hard to blame him), and didn't want to waste Halladay on a possible loss, and sweep, against Santana. Pitching him Saturday was his way of thinking "At least I'll get one, and this series won't be a big deal."
  12. No one can sour the Mets these days! I'm thinking about going out on the town in the afternoon, etc, find an excuse to be in the car at 3:30 so I can listen to some or most of the game on the radio with Howie and Wayne instead
  13. Let's get this going! Phillies Suck! Looking forward to bashing Kendrick.
  14. I never minded the ratings guessing game when it was with Russo. I guess the back and forth about how interesting a particular event was had interest versus Mikey just telling us what he thinks is important. He asserts himself a lot more, because there is never any disagreement. "No way Tiger wins this one. Not a chance. He doesn't come from behind."

[francesa]YOU HAVE A SEASON NOW! YOU HAVE A SEASON![/francesa] I can't believe I listen to that blowhard. No matter what a caller said about the Mets after the game on Wednesday, that was his response. God forbid you actually listen to the callers, Mike. Ugh. In his defense the callers are idiots too, especially the one I heard the other day lauding the transformative contributions of "Mike Davis" to the Mets. True, but Francesa probably attracts that type of caller, whereas the more sane ones won't call. The callers tend to reflect the attitude of the host to an extent. He cuts people off enough to make their points sound stupid too. A Yankee caller was discussing Girardi's use of CC (and he wasn't being very coherent anyway) but he tried to say that he didn't think CC should be out there in the first inning. (i assume he meant 8th, or some other inning) but Francesa cut him off and hung up on him and then called him an idiot for the first inning comment. Rather than delving into the substance of what he was actually trying to say.
  16. Well _I_ http://www.ceetar.com/optimisticmetsfan/2010/04/30/first-place-mets-play-for-respect/ think it's a big deal, in an overly dramatic way. In actual baseball terms, not so much. But it would go a long way towards giving the Mets some confidence, getting fans to believe, and making Morgan and Miller have to figure out something nice to say Sunday night about the Mets.

I know this isn't as much paper as printing it (although the green thing is a MLB wide suggestion, so they get brownie points for not sending them, but no one cares if they send flash drives) but still it's paper and envelopes and stamps to mail it to me. How did you get them to send it to you on a Flash Drive? Does it require having to blow someone? Which still isn't as good as a paper copy, but it's at least better than the non-downloadable link they gave me. This is gonna sound odd..but they simply emailed me and asked if I wanted one. I really only flipped through the '07 and '08 ones I have once or twice, so it's not a huge deal to me either way. I'm less likely to read things on the computer, but it could be interesting to have. I called the Ticket Office. The guy up there told me they were out of the flash drives and could not send me a Media Guide due to the "Going Green" initiative. He then transferred me down to Ticket Services. The guy at Ticket Services was unfamiliar with any flash drives. He put me on hold so he could talk to the Ticket Office. After being on hold for a while, Ticket Services took my account number, and then transferred me back to the Ticket Office. Who said he couldn't help me, and would transfer me back to Ticket Services. I mentioned that I had just been transferred to him by Ticket Services, and he put me on hold to talk to them. After he talked to them, he basically said that only people in the media were offered a flash drive (are you in the media Ceetar?) and that he couldn't help me. But after that, for some reason, I went back to the original link that the Mets sent me. Without telling people they have done this, they changed the access so now the Media Guide can be downloaded. So in the end, I have the Media Guide downloaded onto my PC. With no help from the people who are supposed to be in charge of helping the fans figure out these things, of course. Very Metsian.... Wow, you really wanted a media guide! Me, no I'm not media, just a lowly blogger.

  20. I took a video a couple of weeks ago of the wind trying to knock my cup out of the cupholder.

  22. btw, DeRosa kinda sucks this year. I wouldn't want those numbers on my team right now.. Murphy is a better player than Catalnotto and Tatis (leaving GMJ and Cora out since they play positions Murph doesn't) No reason not to bring him up here, other than I don't think Manuel particularly likes him. He'll add value. And we'll worry about Ike if we need to. He wouldn't be the first guy (Murphy himself comes to mind) to have a really hot start and then cool off and be overmatched. It doesn't look like Ike will right now, but if he starts to slow a little, even just giving him a day or two off I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Murphy playing than Fernando or Frank.
