I heard this on one of my brief listens to Michael Kay on my drive home. This took place on Friday when he hit the game-winning home run against the Orioles. Supposedly, the first pitch was a ball just off the plate called a strike, and was supposedly called a strike all day. A-Rod stepped out and said something to the ump (as relayed to Kay) along the lines of "Hey man, this is a big spot, you can't be calling me out on a pitch that's not on the plate." and supposedly the umpire replied in the affirmative. later in the AB, same pitch, called a ball instead of strike three. next pitch, game-winning homer.
